    Hi,
My E46 M3 is a 2001 model. It has the BM54 unit (at the moment removed while I was trying to find a different problem)

I have the widescreen in the dash, but the nav part from the boot has been removed, so just have the changer in the boot.

So I have a couple of questions, if someone would be so kind as to help.

Without nav, would it be worth upgrading the BM54?
Regarding my set up, would I be able to play an mp3 / usb / hd through the unit in anyway?
I have noticed that radio stations are great while stationary, but bugger off when I move, is this fixable? Again with my setup.

    Thanks in advance.

Even without Nav, it's still worth upgrading the BM54 if you like your sounds :)
The BM54 is simply the OEM amplifier for the factory sound system, and upgrading it improves sound quality of the stereo, regardless of whether your Nav function is active or not.

The best way to play MP3s through your head unit would be to upgrade your standard CD Changer for a later (2005-onwards) OEM model, which has Mp3 functionality. Or - an Alpine S634 model also has this functionality, but you will also need an adapter for it to work with the factory connections.
Alternatively, you could look into other options such as the GROM, Dice units etc, which replace the CD changer and allow USB sticks to be connected with mp3 files on them.

Finally, for your radio reception issues, firstly make sure the aerial lead is firmly plugged into the back of the BM54, otherwise check the aerial amplifier in the passenger side C-pillar. These are a known weak spot of the factory aerial, which is built into the rear windscreen demister.

    Hope that helps

Just to add to this, I sent my BM54 to Baris on a Friday, expecting delivery for Monday. He's finished the work by Saturday afternoon!

Got it back on the Tuesday special delivery, all sealed and secure.

Brilliant turn around, and the quality of both the work and the sound output is clearly evident.

    Cheers mate

Same here! Baris got my SatNav working and uptodate. This weekend he replaced my old OEM bluetooth ULF with a newer unit (my phone now talks to the car!) and I had the stage-2 amp upgrade. Fantastic!! Highly recommended.......

Only trouble is Baris convinced me to upgrade my speakers now (HK)...... I'm getting addicted........ not good!

He is a naughty bunny with all these upgrades, keeps making you spend more:eek:
The stage2 deserves something better than the speakers that are factory installed, I've just bought Focals front & rear to replace my HK's.

Are they really good speakers? How complex is the fitting? How much do they cost? (If you don't mind my asking).

Glad you like it mate

Finally, your car is back to standard, and the horrid parrot is out of your car lol. Now you just need some proper speakers to fully enjoy your Orchestra music

Haha. It will sound so crisp once they are in.

Nice. Did you get the brackets?

Excellent Job by Xkalibar / Baris

Visited Xkalibar (Baris) last night for the bluetooth upgrade allowing me to stream music from my iphone5 direct to the HK system in the car.

Very happy with the result all at a very reasonable and fair price. Would highly recommend Baris, very helpful, total enthusiast and a big asset to have on the Forums.

Baris - I'll def be back to you for the Amp upgrade and digital tv / DAB digital upgrade too, but all in due course and figure i'd sort out that terrible vibration from the parcel shelf first!

    thanks again

BMW OEM bluetooth phone set up

    Baris,

btw - what do you recommend as a better bluetooth system for making/receiving calls? Never find my OEM system to be clear at all, and also making calls is tedious.

    Do you have any suggestions/solutiins?

    cheers

Thanks mate, nice meeting you as well. I do enjoy chilling in a car, and listening to music, once in awhile

I could hear you perfectly fine. Was it harder to hear me?

My M3 got written off sadley so i dont come on here anymore, however i got an X5 and low and behold the one day the speakers start screeching at me and then pack up all together, took me a while to actually figure out it was the BM54 unit and after a little search on ebay i also found Baris.

My X5 was going in the shop for some body work and i emailed Baris if i could come out to him and wait so to speak while he carries out the work, he said yes and gave me a time.

I was there on the dot, met Baris, nice chap, dropped off BM54 unit...... came back an hour later and bosh, done.

I would thouroughly reccomend Baris service. A+++++++++++

My right front door speakers no longer work all the others do so will check the door wiring but if that's fine I am assuming its time for you to work your magic on the BM54?

99% of the time,it is the bm54 and not the speaker. You can check the speaker output ohm reading from the bm54 connection. Or even stick another speaker into the back of the connection for the non working speaker, and see if sound comes out.

i went to see Baris for a bluetooth upgrade so i could stream music and ended up getting this done too.

As it happens the sound from the left side of the car died a few weeks back and the upgrade sorted it out and improved the sound ten fold. I think the developing fault was making the speakers worse than they already are. Listening to music was not a nice experience.

I drove home in the sun with my roof down streaming soundcloud from my phone all speakers playing and sounding a lot better. Still want to upgrade them but for now i am a lot happier.

Thanks Baris was greaat to meet you mate and will be in touch for some more upgrades soon :thumbsup:

    Cheers Vlad

Going to get the upgrade soon. Does the Bluetooth replace the cd player or are both still available?
