How much would you charge to set my amp up, if you even do that sort of thing ?
If your amp is equipped with configuration, then all you would need to do is switch to low level input. What amp are you using?
Its a 4 channel JL Audio one, 4300 IIRC
I believe it is also set up for low voltage input if thats what you mean ?
Here is the manual for your amp. http://mediacdn.jlaudio.com/media/mfg/9013/media_document/live_1/e4300_MAN.pdf?1317784853
Thank you, I used that to set it up but it still didnt sound good to my ear (although I was not 100% that I knew what I was doing)
Once I've sorted all my speakers could I book a time slot whereby I drive to yours and you configure the amp for me ?
Ricky, My amp has some similar options to yours. here is what I did.
Make sure that the Amp is powered by the battery for +12v and GND, use a Relay (using the remote on to switch), if you like, a 30amp or 40amp replay should be fine.
Output from the BM54 into the Amps RCA
Turn bass boost off.
Set all to discrete (because you want to use all 4 channels (input and output).
So fronts to 1+2, rears to 3+4, sub to pre-out (to the sub amp)
Set all channels to OFF (not HP or LP)
To setup the speaker input Sens:
Turn the input sens all the way down (CCW), then set you volume (from the screen knob) to 3/4 of max.
If you are running the OEM HK speakers then set the input sens to 12.8v. if you are running a normal 4ohm speaker then 12.4v
^^ this means in reality, turn up the sens untill you start to here clipping or distortion, then turn it down a little and that's it, you are set.
Now get a mate and you sit in the car, pick a bassy track and then ask you mate to adjust the filter freq until you like what you hear, (do both front and rear filters at the same time), start at 200 and work down.
Why a relay John ?
I only have input into channels 1 + 2 (bridged)
Would I need to replace all my speakers first (I plan on changing them anyway)
Also do you set the bass and treble settings on the headunit to equal ?
Well you dont need one, but connecting anything directly to a battery, is always a bit risky, a relay just means that when the ignition is off (or the radio), then so is the main amp.
OK. so how is it connected then (email me if you like mate).
No that amp will run the HK's but get the sens right.
Set them to centre to start with, get the amp setup and then adjust as needed.
When setting any amp up always return everything to default, so that the amp has a chance at levelling all the variables, then adjust for personal prefs later.
I've emailed you so as not to clog up Baris's thread, thanks John
Anyone in the Reading area that's had the bm54 amp upgrade done with OEM HK, think I want this done!
I just did a readingm3's bm54, send him a pm
You def want it done dude
Went to see Baris today, he worked his magic and amp is now upgraded. Night and day difference, it's how it should have left BMW.
thumbs up, cheers to Baris, much appreciated
Baris when will the BT upgrade mod be available? I want to send my BM53 with my BT module together.
Baris, I have 2004 with old sat nav, and also wanted an AuxIn (just a cable) and may as well get the amps upgraded as well (cost dependant).
Will PM you also.
BM54 repair and upgrade review
I have an 2005 X5 with a BM54 unit. It was repaired by a competitor to Baris. It was a poor quality sound and eventually packed in.
Sent my unit to Baris who was more than helpful, he repaired and upgraded it and added bluetooth music streaming as well.
The result was awesome the music quality is 300% better and the music streaming is perfect.
I cannot speak too highly of the speedy service and the high quality of the repair/upgrade.
Thanks BARIS you are the best.
For anyone with a BM54 unit get it upgraded by Baris you won't be disappointed.
Blimey, just saw this.
Thank you for the kind words.
Receive, quite a few units who have already gone to other repair companies. This company in particular, are new to bm54 units, but have built up a business changing lasers on nav units, for some time now. The amp kit they use is advertised as 45 watts or something, but is no where near it, as that's not have the IC amps work. That aside, the shoddy job I saw on this unit, was probably the worst I have ever seen. Cables held onto circuit board by an overdoes of glue. Which caused one of the channels to distort.
The quality of soldering and equipment used by the rest is pretty rubbish also. Except for one guy, who's work is good, but he doesn't use powerful amps, like mine.
I would also warn, as much as I have taken on work from units that have already been meddled with, the types of faults I get from some of them afterwards, I have never come across, when I have repaired a unit, from fresh. So be warned!
Just want to say a big thanks to Baris for his speedy and excellent work.
Just had my amp BM54 upgraded and Bluetooth streaming added and the sound difference is astonishing.
Super quick turnaround and very helpful when I needed to call him for help.
Thanks again Baris
Thank you for the kind words Glenn.
