Its been a while since i have been in a dealer to see what they have. Decided to stop by Cooper Cobham and was frankly shocked at the sticker prices on some of the cars there… clearly i missed the bit where top end BMWs were 6 figure cars!

Prime examples:

M8: £135k
X5M: £132.5k

For a BMW!? Nuts

I agree and there will be no discounts either!

I’ve seen a new M135i in the showroom at £50,250! My first F80 which I favtory ordered in 2015 was £54k. Madness!

Folk will keep feeding the BMW machine. Then moan when the service is ****e or parts are too expensive, then feed it some more 5 years later.

It’s not just BMW and it’s also not just happened, crazy nonetheless.

Because no-one buys cars at face value anymore - everything is geared towards the PCP finance with the intention to own the car for a set period before moving onto the next therefore the overinflated sticker price is all part of the game.

For comparison, in 2010 an X5 xDrive50i M Sport OTR was £58175. Today that should be £75785. The xDrive40i M Sport today is £69010.

Can't find a 2010 price for an X5M. Did they exist then?

Back in 2010 my E93 M3 had a list price of £70,000 with the options I had. In today's money that's £91,190. The advertised OTR for the M4 today, no options is £85870. Not so far off.

They have always been expensive.

Porsche are playing a stupid game and die hard fans are just falling for them. Until they stop they will continue with their absurd pricing strategy.

I had a walk around the pre owned stuff and there was a 911 turbo outside that had 800 miles on it, seems to have done over £50k in 7 months or so

Went past our local Jag Land Rover dealership this afternoon at two different times and on neither occasion was there a single car in the customer parking section - did check doors where open and lights where on!

As has been said above, virtually no one is going to empty their account to the tune of £135k for an M8 etc so the RRP is largely irrelevant. The only figure they will focus on is how much per month and if the slippery sales people do a good enough job of bombarding them with irrelevant numbers, people will and do sign on the dotted line.

Record profits

Record car sales

But there is a "chip shortage" so production is lower than pre COVID levels

Am I the only one thinking they are all pulling our pissers here?
