good section and thread. watching with interest.

if you like Trofeo R and running 265 35 18 all round would be worth speaking to Porsche club GB as its the control tyre for the Carrera cup and Boxsters too.

i have picked up a few sets that have been hardly used and they are 70-80 per corner which for a Trofeo R is good.

I know Russ swears by the Zestino. given the speed he has and way he pedals if its good enough for Russ its more than enough for most of us!!

Bloke down near me is selling a set of four Accelera 651 semi slicks 265 35 18. they were up for 90 a corner now down to 80. you might be able to get them for £300 for the set:

not as good as the Zestino or premium brands but seem to get good reviews/ratings on track forums.

Thanks for the heads up on the Trofeo r...Might look into them and worth a shot to see how they fair against my Zetinos and exelera sports.

The Trofeo should be a decent step up in terms of grip, managing heat and be able to run longer at good pace.

is it worth the extra bucks at our level? not sure and not really good enough or on track enough to say.

I do like the back to back tyre tests they do where the driver does not know the tyre - more grip on one, better lap times etc. or more understeer and ABS going like crazy under braking on a lower ££ tyre.

I put the team dynamics wheels on my track 46 last night with the 888Rs and its like a different car compared to the road tyres. much more grip, less roll with stiffer sidewall and the steering is much more precise.

been reading this thread and wanted to ask peoples opinions

ive just got a set of direzza's for track to replace the AR1's i've used this season.

for mounting them - does it matter which side you put to the outside of the alloy? obviously rotation direction to be correct, but isnt an outside or inside marked on the side wall

was going to put the side with the E mark to the outside - incase i needed to argue the case if get stopped, but not sure if it matters more than that?

looks like only one of the sidewalls is E marked

also any ideas for pressures and camber settings for these from anyone? - is an E90M3, bucket seats + rear seats removed, AP front brakes, 3.64 JC racing diff, dct, BC ER coilovers - so less heavy than full fat but still weighty.
adjustable front top mounts so can change from -2deg and slight toe in for road used to about -4 to -4.5deg with small amount of toe out for track use- handy as done in 10mins when i get to the circuit

had been running the AR1s 30psi front 31psi rear hot on track. which seems to be consistent in grip

is a little bit more inside edge wear on rears but not bad, fronts more wear - one started to delaminate on last trackday (4th day on this set)
currently set to -2.3 deg rear camber
had been running the fronts on about -4 to -4.5deg but has worn the inside edges more on AR1's. reduced this to about -3deg and seems to be better for wear but a little more understeer - though this could be due to 4th day on the tyres?
nankang recommend -3deg max camber on their website.
-4deg front was only on track as changed back to -2deg for road used - mainly just to and from the circuit on these tyres

i'd previously run cup 2 connects and needed more camber to help stop wearing the outer edges - did also wear inside too - but i'm thinking they maybe allowed the tyre to roll more onto the outer edge because of the softer sidewalls- compared to something like AR1 or direzza. so am estimating the direzza's will need less - maybe around -3deg?

obviously the toe will affect inside edge wear - but as its not alot - from what garage have told me - and only run toe out while on track - it shouldnt affect things that much?

let me know what you think

thanks in advance

Doesn’t matter if the E marking is inside, just show them the other side if stopped.

PSI, start at 32 cold, aim for 31/32 hot. Don’t let them go below 30psi under any circumstances.

Also be careful getting them mounted, don’t exceed PSI while seating the bead.

Many guys running -4 degrees on direzzas, myself included.

For road use I’d dial it down a bit as you’ll have to compromise. -3/-2 F/R should be fine?

Ok cool, that’s good to know. Will get them to be careful when seating them

That’s helpful if I can go up to -4 if needed - will try them out and see what feels best and wears well too

So will need to put some pressure back in them after lunchtime break at a trackday to keep them above 30psi, as will likely drop down to mid 20’s when left to cool down for a while

Cheers mate

Goes without saying, but avoid kerbs and holes when the pressures are low and they are cold. Seen quite a few people pinch direzzas recently and at their price - it’s gutting.
