    I was under the impression the new (2015) S1000rr had pretty much all the HP4 bits of the old model? Active suspension, the trick electronics / traction management etc.

    Unless you prefer the limited numbers of the 2013 HP4?

    Most sport bikes have seat heights around 800mm. I'd say the M3 is like a Honda CBR600RR or Suzuki GSXR600. Quick but goes about its business in a manageable way. The new GSXRs even have different throttle problems much like the M3 :)

    I'm 173cm and on my CBR600RR, I'm on the balls of both feet at the lights.

    I think you're right, but I thought the HP4 was a bit lighter; the exclusivity doesn't phase me so much but I guess it helps resale values!

    Sports bikes are for looking at and track days. 90 per cent of people that own them never track them, and they also couldn't ride out of your road in most cases, I see them every day. The average rider doesn't need half the power an RR throws out on the road. This has all the good things from the RR (great handling, same engine, lean angle traction control and abs), and all the practicality of the GS (riding position, heated grips, nav capabilities, pillion comfort).

    Its now the way a lot of sports bike riders are going. Either this or the multistrada, a far better choice for someone who never intends to go on track and even then this thing is more than capable, it has a lap timer fgs. Giving that the man has no previous riding history but still wants something that will give him thrills id say one of these would suit his needs much better.

    another good shout. Had a ride on one of these with a set of bar risers on it... Awesome machine, the only thing that would pull me away from the xr :thumbsup:

    Cheers for the replies fella's. I've gone from a S1000RR (and numerous other sports bikes) to the big Kawasaki, I am mid 50's and 6' 2" and was finding it increasingly difficult to fold myself onto the S1000 :(

    I'm 31 and still had plenty of sports bike years ahead of me I just seen the light and glad I did. I'm faster now than I ever was and enjoy biking so much more now.

    I was fascinated with sports bikes, nothing else would do. That's because upright bikes of the past were slow and boring. The xr is a complete missile and the quickshifter up and down the box is the party trick of the decade.

    A lot of people watch rossi ride the bike round the track so think they can do it on the road and its far from reality. Unfortunately the riding position on them doesn't give great views going in and out of corners with hedges and trees added to the mix. If I ever bought another sports it would be an RR but it would just be for looking at. Id always go for the xr every time... :thumbsup:

    Yeah I get your bike, if you are a daily commuter, need panniers etc.

    But for a lot of folk that ride, a bike is often a toy in addition to a car (which is the practical option) so it doesn't need to be practicle. Or ridden to 10/10ths (most M3 owners don't use half it's capability). It only needs to provoke emotion - looking at it, riding it, hearing it and twisting the right hand. Look at Rory's for example. That pops a boner just looking at it, let alone riding it.
