Hi Cutters. Not a sexy topic but thought this might be of interest, for prospective buyers too perhaps. Depending how you drive (and the roads you drive on) these cars can be surprisingly efficient.

I am on flowing A roads 99% of the time. Noticed this when I got home last night, 10 miles after filling up:

I will easily get 320 miles out of this tank.

I had some work done on the car a few months ago and was advised to stay under 3000 rpms for a few hundred miles - boring yes, but I did manage 350 miles!

I have a mixture of roads on my commute - twisty B roads, motorway and town driving and I'll generally get 300 - 325 out of a tank.

I took long fairly long motorway journey the other week and was heading towards a 350 mile tank but I had to stop for a splash and dash as that qouldn't quite of got me home.

Cue the posts of 'I've never got more than 200 miles from a tank, you guys must drive slow, why do you own an M blah blah blah....' posts

Other owners must drive flat out everywhere presumably, or they fill up at just under half a tank?

    :)

    Manual car? That's good going.
I normally get about 70/75miles per quarter of a tank, if i drive like a wimp.
It's currently sat at 22.9mpg right now.

Stop start traffic down back roads and through villages on the way to work and a heavy foot gave me 200 miles a tank consistently. Longer motorway runs saw 320.

    Calling me a wimp? :)

My average MPG according to the car is just over 25 - seems to be fairly accurate.

I was thinking stop start traffic must be the killer. Thankfully it's a great car to be sat even when stationary!

Stop start is a killer. If I reset for the A road part of my commute I get about 23mpg. If I then rest as I hit the heavy traffic it drops to 17. Still average about 250-280 a tank which in fairness I think is brilliant for the type of car and engine.

I’m impressed with mileage that the OP achieved and gives me hope as I’m getting nothing like that right now! But I’ve only had the car for just over a month so I’m not driving conservatively one bit!!

I daily drive in to London and the car is currently averaging 20.1 MPG which is not bad considering the V8:thumbsup:.

As the OP has stated, for people like me gearing up to make the move to an E92 M3 as a daily in the coming weeks/ months this is impressive to see that on a run they can deliver good range, granted I will be round town with under 15 miles a day commute so I can imagine 200 miles a tank will be the normal.

I'm averaging about 18 MPG at the moment. I generally get between 220-230 miles out of a full tank. My daily commute is mostly motorway but the whole journey one way is about 5.5 miles. I always run it down to empty and always fill it right up with V Power. On a 170 mile round trip recently I got 260 out of the tank that week. That's the most I've ever got.

Is there anything you can do to improve fuel economy other than driving at low revs all the time? I wondered whether a new air filter might help, I need to check to see what my filter looks like.

My commute (even though its the same time each day), can vary between being completely clear to stop start. This week i'm averaging about 17-18mpg. Normally its about 19, however i've seen 26 on the motorway.

On average I'll get around 220-240 miles maximum out of a complete tank full (over 60 litres, so getting close to empty), but my daily commute is very short, circa 7 mile round trip.

Best I acheived was a tank full on a 300 mile round trip to Lincoln.

I never used to get any more than 200-230 miles a TANK. Now with the f83 I’m at least 50% better on fuel.
