Does anyone use one of these? The blurb says you can control your iPod via the idrive controller or steering wheel, plus it charges at the same time.

I've got an ipod touch (not sure if it uses the same cable), but i just use the cable that connects to my pc and just swap the whole lot out.

Do you need to have a combox for this to work? Or will it work on the standard CIC?

Cotswold confirmed that it would work with my cars idrive controller. All they need is your reg or VIN number. Cost £26.

Thanks, that's interesting. I have an old iPhone 4 I don't use so I could just use this for music, it's 32 gb :)

Having said that, I'm just using a 16 gb usb stick with most of my recent songs on there

Interesting, I have CIC idrive from 2010. I need to use the Y-cable from BMW with ipod classic 160Gb.

USB charging, aUx for audio. This one looks like it's power and audio transfer to iDRive. In theory much better audio quality, I've never seen this before. I wonder if it will work with my car.

Might have to give it a try.

I’ve ordered one from Cotswolds so I’ll let you know if it’s any good.

    Let me know! :)

This one is for y-cable is for Lightening connection. I've tried it but the audio quality isn't very good. It distorts the audio. The one OP posted looks like it's straight USB connection 30-pin to USB. Audio doesn't go through the AUX connection.

Like newer iDrive or with combox where you can connect via Apple Lightning USB cable. Not the BMW y-split cable which in theory is for older CIC.

What I gathered is there are 4 different of type of connection

BMW 30pin to USB - which I didn't know existed!
BMW y cable 30pin to USB (power) + AUX connection - I'm using now
Apple 30pin USB cable - never tried on newer and doesn't work on older iDrive
BMW y cable Lightning to USB (power) + AUX connection - tried, bad audio
Apple Lightning Cable - USB - only for newer iDrive (or Combox)

You know a lot more than me:thumbsup: It worked great for me when I had the CIC system

I now have NBT so I stream music directly from the device to the HU, I think this is also an option if you have the combox CIC system (I now just use the old cable to power the ipod up)

I'm retrofitting combox to iDrive CIC. I will do more tests once that is done to see what cable works.

I saw your thread about NBT install to E9x M3. Love to see it in person one day!!!!

I've spent nearly £3,000 on individual audio, combox, snap in adapters etc just to try and get music streaming from phone and video playback on my CIC.
