Hi All, need a new set of tyres and was wondering if any of you would recommended anything different to the MPSS, I currently have the Contis on but having read the threads get the vibe that the MPSS's would be the best choice for the vert.

    Thanks in advance.

Forget the Super Sports and go for Pilot Sport 4 S, Michelin's replacement for the Super Sports (which will be phased out). Newer tyre technology and better than the Super Sports in every conceivable way from my experience.

I’d personally stick to super sports, 4S have softer side walls and some don’t get on with them, they do have better wet performance though.......I’ve just bought more super sports

May sound strange but I have a combo. Supersports front and 4S rear. Really is ideal.

Exactly what I have. The MPSS on the back just didn’t cut it at all, noticed a big improvement with the MP4S on the back and thinking about trying the fronts as well.

I will be sticking with the MPSS for my F83. Never had any issues with them at all. Even traction is great. I wouldn’t go for the 4S with the soft side wall plus they AREN’T BMW rated.

Thanks - are you happy with their wet performance?

Yes apart from going through standing water but not much helps there. I’m on 12k miles and still a few k miles left in them.

I know what you mean about the sidewalls. For me though, it's worth the very small trade-off when you're getting more in return - huge improvement in the wet (as you suggested), slightly quieter (the SS tyres generate loads of road noise) and a tad more refined ride.

Just had some MP4S fit on the rear on my F83, much better wet grip and less road noise. Fronts are standard Supersports.

I ran the same until I used up the fronts now have 4S all round. Very happy with them. I know there are people who have had issues with the softer side walls, but have to admit, I haven’t - I mustn’t drive hard enough!

Stick with the MPSS - seem a better all-rounder to me. Could be wrong, but I think they wear better too.

Don't forget the Vert has that heavy roof to support so the softer side walls might give way.:D

Interesting you say that, as I replaced my rear MPSS after around 10k and whilst they were far from illegal, they had given their best. Just up on 20k miles and loads of meat on the 4S’s

Thanks for this, did you get the MP4S Rears in 100Y XL or just the 100Y versions?

Now ordered and awaiting fitting next week.

MPSS front and MP4S back - £593.56 including fitting from Costco. Next nearest quote was £746 and the next was £813.

There was a back order wait on the MPSS rears and MP4S fronts so actually it working out as per a couple of recommendations on this thread was a fluke but one I’m looking forward to trying!

Thank you all for your advice

Having had the tyres fitted and completed some miles in the wet and dry weather, the difference is night and day, admittedly I am comparing against worn out Contis but I can't ever remember getting this kind of grip from them when they were new. Great investment... just inspire so much more confidence at all speeds.

Thanks again for all the advice.
