track day - e92 or e46

    hi guys,

    looking to buy a track car as my Porsche is taking a hammering!

    I don't really have a budget as such but do I go for a e92 m3 dct or a e46 m3 smg.

    it must be road legal and have paddle shift.

    do I buy one already done or buy a clean example and change the suspension/brakes?

    any info would be appreciated. thanks jc

    Hi, I would defo go 46 route (although I might be a bit biased!) 46 will be lighter, running costs lower, and I think more fun. 92 will be quicker, but fuel and brakes will take a pounding.
    Whichever one you choose, it will be a blast :):)

    Fox red with a Schwarz2 colour change. Jerez sucks!
    I'd go E92, better gearbox and once you've stripped out all the unnecessary weight... its gonna go like a rocket.

    Regarding the e92 DCT , are the engines and gearbox bulletproof if staying at stock bhp.

    Would I need to change suspension and brakes?

    E92 DCT, upgrade pads, lines and fluid first of all, see how you get on, then start to dial in a suspension change and BBK if needed. It doesn't need anymore power and is fabulous to drive on track.

    Nothing major with dct box but make sure it’s always got clean oil and fully warmed up before nailing it. That’ll ensure your rod bearings last.

    I have just found that I prefer to understand the stock car before looking to upgrade anything and then just one thing at a time.

    Over 70K in my E92, good few track days and no issues. As said, just warm it up and have fresh fluids at regular intervals.

    Oh now that’s tough, but I still think E92 DCT, the engine is just such a peach, however I am biased!

    Had this same dilemma recently, I went E46 simply because I didn't want to pay the amount of money it costs to run E92s on track. I'd rather be in an E92 but not at the extra expense.

    Both e92 and e46 make excellent track cars in their own right, most people will be biased to one or the other , but as you state budget isn't a codsideration, I'd drive one of each and see which one takes your fancy, both will need upgrades for track depending on how much you want to push on track, as for the bearing in mind youve been driving a 2016 gt3rs has no bearing on your decision as all different cars if that was meant to mean your used to newer cars I'd go e92 , if it's because gt3rs is quick either because I've seen many gt3rs passed by both e92 and e46

    There’s a lot of options. Someone has also told me to consider a f80 m3 with a tune , lowering springs .
