After collecting my Auc M4 CP on the 26th April from Stoke on Trent, then having to book it in with my local dealer for a knocking noise issue, the car is still at the dealers.

It was booked in on the 8th May ( earliest they could fit me in) and still there as i write this.

There is a dull knocking noise from the drivers side rear that the dealer can’t locate. They have heard this noise but have tried to fob me off by saying they all do it. They have also now told me they have supplied a car themselves, with less miles than mine, that has the same problem. They are going to get BMW UK over to try and sort this problem, with the car they have supplied. They will then get my car back in to rectify it.

My concern is if I take my car away, they will again fob me off and say BMW say there is no issue, then wash their hands of my problem.

I’m very tempted to reject the car as I’m totally sick of the customer service from Bmw in general.

To make things worse I’m away abroad on holiday while trying to deal with this problem. It was meant to be all sorted for my return when I proposed to collect the car this coming Monday morning.

Under what circumstances do you hear the knocking?

Just reject if it within 30 days then you don’t need to even allow the supplying dealer an to attempt repair.

The dull knocking noise happens on uneven roads. Most noticeable at lower speeds, below 30 mph, otherwise the road noise from the tyres drowns the knocking sound out. It’s almost like an anti-roll bar bush has failed or something to do with the shocker. It’s not a metallic noise, if that makes sense? Could even be something silly like a plastic shocker shroud that is rattling perhaps?

That’s good to know. I haven’t had it 30 days yet.

    Thanks rawsco

Yes it was purchased from Knights but mine doesn’t have performance exhaust. It is mineral white though. It’s my local dealer in Yorkshire that can’t fix the damn thing though.

Going to call knights on Monday to tell them I’m rejecting it.

    Try the rear top mount.

Mine had the same on my 65 reg YMB. Took Knights ages to sort it.

Yeah it could be this. Mine is a 66 reg with 18k miles.

I have had the car for 21 days in total. 10 days of which are at my local dealer, so far!

Does it sound like it's coming from the rear suspension? If so I had this and they couldn't fix it, they replaced so many components and nothing made a difference. Car rejected and new one orderes

It’s difficult to pin point but i’m 99% sure it’s from the right hand side rear. I even took everything out of the boot to make sure it wasn’t something daft rattling. When the rear seats are dropped the noise is much more prominent.

Have you tried sitting in the rear whilst someone else drives - might be able to pinpoint more

Dull knocking noise over uneven ground sounds like a top mount or a droplink can sometimes sound like a dull knock.

With the car being an Auc one this is up to BMW to diagnose.

To be fair,I would try this method myself if it wasn’t under warranty Jacko.

Exactly my thoughts. Can’t understand why BMW aren’t exploring these avenues though ?

This sounds like exactly what I had, they replaced everything and had cameras and all sort on it to diagnose and still couldnt find it. Mine was a 66 plate also.

Personally I would reject it, they may resolve it temporarily (they did with me) only for it to come back 6 weeks later. The 68 plate M3 that replaced it was perfect with no noise

I think I’m going to reject the car first thing Monday morning. I’m also not happy with the wheels they had refurbished. Look like they were dressed up with sand paper and touched up with an aerosol. I was promised they would be removed and sent for diamond cutting!

Rear nearside shock, when I looked about it seems that a lot around the 66 plate had the same noise. had mine changed and no noise since

Could be something silly like they haven’t tightened up the battery....which is that side at the rear......sometimes dealers remove/charge batteries if car been sitting for a long time and don’t refit properly.
