Just wondering has anyone used thorney motorsport?
What are they like and offer a good service?
They are literally 5mins away from where I live so would be ideal. I’m thinking about getting a remap and in the future rod bearing replacement and just general services. They say they are specialists and have there own e92 m3 race car so must be pretty clued up on the car I would of thought. What’s your experiences with them and what work did you have done? Thanks.

I used them once about 12 years ago when I had a VX220. They were meant to have a great reputation and they were pleasant enough and helpful, but unable to fix a fault with the throttle which I was surprised at. They sold hard tops for that car which tbh weren't amazing quality. No more recent experience than that in afraid.

As with all companies, there are good and bad stories. You only really hear about the bad. Pop down and see John. I'm sure he'll be able to help. They have a nice set up there and I'd be happy for them to work on my car.

I took a trip up to Thorney motorsport in May for a fast road geo set up ,as the steering wheel was allways slightly to the left after changing the rod bearings back in Feb .I fancied having this setup after veiwing it on their website as they claim to eliminate understeer and it all sounded promising. Anyway I booked it in over a month ago as they said they were that busy! dont know why as i was the only person there! They had the car for nearly 4 hours too!!! car drove great on the way up I even drove purposely on the B4437 which Harry metcalfe uses on all his youtube video's ,It was very bumpy i must say and unsettled the car quite a few times ! needed the edc in soft setting for this stretch of tarmac!
I also needed a wheel balance too as they did'nt balance them correctly after my black wheel refurb , while at Thorny I asked them to carry out a wheel balance , No they said as they havnt got a balance machine!! FFS these people deal with high end cars and i counted 11 ( yes eleven ) Mc'clarens at their garage and they hav'nt even got a wheel balancer and theyd have to sub it out !
so the guy who was tasked with the alignment on my car was back and forth and one point didnt work on mine for over an hour! whole i was waiting too, he said and showed me the figure's that the rear setting's were way out of tolerance and that he never saw any 92 that way out! ( yeah thanks FCM in Bristol for that) so two road tests later he wasnt happy with the steering wheel position so had to re do it and almost 4 hours later and £157 lighter, plus fuel, I was on my way back home! TFFT ! Initial impressions ,yeah the s/wheel was straighter but the car felt more nervous ,almost on a knife edge , cant put my finger on it , under harsh acceleration the back end felt more squirmish , to me it felt better driving up! but i was nearly halfway home so didnt have time to go back ,plus the fact they didnt do a wheel balance either! so all motorway speeds i was over gripping the s/wheel to try and dampout the vibration, you know the feeling!
I've actually had the car aligned again since my visit to TM and it drives better now too , so to conclude and sum it all up , in the words of Johnny Rotten , Ever get the feeling you've been cheated!!

Did you contact Thorney about you’re evaluation of the new set up? From your comments it very much seems you got your fast road set up...

Some companies need to be outed when they’ve either failed to deliver on what was promised without reasoning or have given a poor service, this seems more like a whinge for no real reason and with no thought as to the damage it could cause to their reputation.

Just had fast road setup done by FCM in Bristol before heading over the 'Ring about two weeks ago. Car felt brilliant I have to say. Lee has always done a good job on my car.

Thorney have been known to try and sue people who have bad mouthed them on public forum, and have read some posts that have been far from complimentary over the years.

Of course, the old story of bad news travelling far faster than good....

I have seen enough to know I am unlikely to ever go to them.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I think I will stay away as I seen more bad experiences than good, shame really as it’s on my doorstep. It does seem they are more into mclarens nowadays.
