So I am back as promised and things are really kicking into gear now!
Yes my dark stuff is still going on in the background But the M3 is happening no mater what so lets get this show started!

Small wrench in the works and thats the front bumper, I have no front corner splitter and Teddy (SSDD) is on holiday till Thursday!
So if you know anyone who can sell/ship me a drivers side carbon splitter that fits his Taiwanese bumper please let me know as its stopping the car from being finished!
Also guess who just put a deposit down on the GSF Carbon airbox kit
There will be no S/C or Turbos on this car, 110% organic, naturally aspirated goodness only from this S54. I will be working closely with Ben at Hack Engineeering as i hear he has something in the works that can safely unlock 400bhp from our little S54s
So a brief rundown for the 2018 year for The Benchmark
February is Paint
March is Gosling Racing for roll cages (yes CAGES plural)
End of March, Recaro for those stunning Pole Positions and a new interior to finish it off
April a brand new Differential
and then if all goes to plan..... well I don't wanna jinx it, but fingers crossed we will find a container
What strut brace did you put on? Asking as it's black...
I wish I knew, the previous owner said it was a ACS part. But I have dissembled it and see no markings.
It is however a quality bit of kit.
The Mason front brace is a nice fully welded upgrade if your after a different one 7DT.

Here they are, but not cheap. Very high quality part though:
It is fully welded so no flex at all, and it lies flat on the strut tower unlike the OE one (that only sits in 3 places where the bolts go through), so offers more strength if you fit stiffer springs.
New video up chaps, sorry for the slow progress, in some ways I am thankfull as it gives me more time to edit with everything else thats going on.
At times I am thankful the car is off the road as I may of wrapped it into a tree with the roads and weather round here... plus the emotions sometimes rearing their ugly head during this time, after all we are human.
I intend to have some professional training done before going to Germany this year, to get my brain back on track and hopefully become a better driver for it..... anyway the video
Episode 15 - Rust, Dents and Repairs
Now about the paint job video... I took this from a comment and thought it would address any questions or screws up I may of made.
This is not a cheap hack job done in some back street garage, Ralph is doing this properly and is genuinely taking his time and doing it right.
However I'm not a great director and should of put more detail into the film, here you can see Ralph is taking most of the paint back (not all) and wet sanding for the primer NOT the paint.
So for almost all respray jobs this is what should happen, sand old paint down, cut out rust, weld in metal, smooth out the dings/dents by hand/hammer and maybe a little filler, I don't really want this and have made it clear I would rather pay to have it done right, but if its a tiny amount that will not ruin the car in the future then fine.
Then finally you spray primer over that... if it looks good (it wont, never does!) then sand back down the bits that were 'off' or almost all if you really ballsed it up (Ralph wont, hes VERY good) and spray that primer over the car again.
After this, you can begin to add the layers of paint, my unusual colour choice is trickier to paint then other shades, so it will take time, otherwise the minute the light hits it (if indeed we get any) you will see its wrong.
The gloss coat is something we are still discussing. You can do the standard like all factory cars or go full on show car and make it shine with silly amounts of gloss, baking, gloss, baking (repeat 10 times in some cases!).... can easily add a month and another £5k easy..... I am a practical man so no, this is not something I am even considering.
This is no show car as I intend to drive it, so I am still in talks about the clear coat options at the moment, and I am more concerned about protection over the long term then having a pretty car!
Now I am NOT a paint expert, this is just what I remember discussing previously with Ralph, so please by all means add/correct where I have been incorrect and feel free to offer me any advice about anything I may of overlooked.

Just a thought... have you considered paint protection film? May offer you the protection, without costly additional layers of top coat!
Project is looking good, I would suggest taking the rear wheels off to take a really good look at the inner arches. E46’s typically rust from the inside out, it would be a shame for the fresh pint to be ruined if some areas of the inside need addressing later
I have, but I was made aware that new paint takes a month or so to cure, so I would have to bubble wrap it and not drive it, then have it detailed before spending £800ish on that film......
But its definitely something on my mind

Get work Sir, loved the youtube videos, lots and lots of money spent.
Good stuff, enjoyed seeing it in the body shop.
However... at what point would it have been more sensible to buy a good one in the first place? You must have spend 16-18K total by now? and an 18K e46 M3 would probably be a diamond.
Be interesting to see this 400bhp solution you say hack have coming and what’s involved
I believe the OP’s original rationale was that even after spending £18k you’re not necessarily guaranteed a problem-free car with all potential issues addressed.
Going this route means spending the same total outlay, but at least you know for sure at the end of it that everything has been done, and to your own standards.... I guess this isn’t a strategy that everyone would follow, but it seems to be working for the OP
Ah yes, seems fair enough!
Occasionally really good cars do pop up for sale which have had everything sorted etc.
