I just wasn't that impressed until I had the engine built with lower compression to run much more boost (13-14 PSi) but felt it lost some reliability.

My advice to anybody would be to try and get a back to back drive in the cars or even a side by side comparison. £6K gets you a lot on paper but difference in the real world isn't as huge as you'd think.

Gearbox is pretty much at it's limit now for reliability (~300 HP/ton) so no mate. It's amazing how quickly the savings start mounting up when your not spending thousands a year on mods. :D

    Hi Mickey

Can you expand on your comment regarding the side by side comparison. Are you saying that an M3 fitted with say an ESS VT2 500 is not really that much quicker than a NA M3.
I'm interested in this mod so it's always interesting to hear another point of view.

I can assure you this is not true. I use my car on track and can't wait to get it on one. As previously posted the car feels oem all the way until you toe it.

Depends what you wan't from the car, as to whether it is for you, i'm in saffron walden and you are welcome to come for a ride?

That is a very kind offer Mocha99. Sadly I live in Hastings on the South East coast so it is just a little too far but really do appreciate the gesture.

I have registered with M3 forum.com as supercharging is more common in the USA and there are some really good ESS & AA related threads.

Just goes to show that people are the same the whole world over.:D

The snipping between the ESS, AA & HPF camps are frerquent and you're just never too sure what motivatation some of the members have for the "HPF just blew up another motor" threads......Popcorn sales perhaps?

I can`t comment on what the 500 kit will perform like as I skipped that stage.

I ran my cab for a year at 460 HP and it was marginally quicker than a std cab (5s quicker from 30-130 mph, 19s Vs 24s)

At 600 HP it was slightly quicker than an E60 M5 (low 12`s in 1/4 mile at 121 mph).

Yep, can`t argue with that but E60 M5`s or an M6 are cheap as chips now and with the biggest injectors in the M3 I could empty a tank in 70ish miles anyway, so fuel cost will be simillar.

M3nut has my old built engine and chargecooler set up. So he can give you an informed opinion too.

That sounds a lot quicker to me, it's 25% quicker! 5 seconds is nearly 300 meters at 130mph!

Believe it or not it`s the same difference as a std cab Vs a CSL. In the real world the difference doesn`t feel massive.

It also wont be 300m in front, as your not travelling at 130mph for 5s and the other car wouldn`t be stationary. ;)

E60 M5 will blow it`s doors off. Seriously, I chased Graham the Baker in his loads of times when I was at 460HP. From a rolling start at say 40-50, I coukld keep up to around 100, after that it romps away every time, by 150 it`s bus ;engths in front.

Which kit were you were running, Mickey? Was the kit top end or more geared to mid-range? I know it was the 460, but what was the full name of the kit?

ESS kit mocha. Non-intercooled at 6PSi, then cooled with a low compression engine at 13-14PSi. Vortech V2 S trim, maxxed out. All work done by Simpson, as I said earliuer M3Nut now has my old set up.
