I didn't think of that. Externally the blocks may be very similar but who knows what M did differently internally. Those gaps between the piston may well be the thinnest point. Plus, people are building 1200bhp turbo s54's with just forged internals so the block must be hard af.

Basically, someone in the know told me it wasn't my best option so I took his advice.

You just answered your own question. Characteristics.

    It's not equal.

Typing in a silly font size doesn't change anything. It makes you look silly.

If a supercharger has the same characteristics, as opposed to turbo which has different ones it's not equal, it's better. Same characteristics but more power. NOT a transformation in the characteristics you liked about NA.

my interest is purely academic as the current build is as you know N/A once thats done i may consider building something else with the remaining components, but that would be a turbo, just to be obtuse :D

There is no doubt that the s54 supercharger is a well traveled road and the smarter option, irrespective of the advantage of one engine over another as its just flat out better developed so unless you want to do your own development and foot the associated bill its a smart option.

Going by what we have discussed it sounds like the S50B30 will probably be able to take some high levels of boost. People boosting the M50 are getting daft levels of power now. like 1000bhp...

Yeah the s54 ESS kit is well used as you say. I don't have time for development these days so the choice of a "bolt in" 550bhp for around £14k was a no brainer....

I don't know really, FI is not something that i am particularly clued up on, the only reason its on my to do list is that once this build is complete i will have more or less a complete s50b30 with a build bottom end left over. i would use a basic m50 turbo manifold with something small like a td05 to put a small boost into it. probably just mill the existing pistons down a spot to drop the CR to 9 ish and maybe throw it in a touring shell, e34 or e36 as a daily smoker.

But that will be a year or so off yet.
