    Hey all.

Before getting new rear tyres fitted and pre lockdown, I took the car out for a good blast!

I'd never tried to launch it until that day, but I only managed to get it to work once! :-(
    Am I doing something wrong?

I went via guides on here / YouTube.
Switching off DSC etc, full sport mode, left foot on the brake, plant right foot on accelerator...etc...
Is there something else I'm missing?

It'll be a while before can I try it again, as I just arrived back in Norway last night. But would be good to know for when I'm home.

    Hope you're all well.

    Stuart.

Engine fully upto temp (6+ miles of driving etc).
    Everything in sport+.
    DSC Fully off.
    S3 mode on the DCT.

Foot on brake, 1st Gear, Stomp on pedal so it hits the kickdown / floor, Flag appears on dash, foot off the brake and light up the tyres.

I struggled with it and couldn't get it to work at all, turns out I was trying to be too gentle with the car and feeding in the throttle, you can't do that, you have to stomp on it.

Doesn’t the car also limit the amount of times you can use it time wise? Maybe you were trying too often and it was having none of it?

Hope you’re well too (all good here).

    Thanks for your reply @cossie1.

It was definetly up to temp. The first time I tried it on the way to the shops DCT was in S3 mode, and it worked.
Second time I tried it on the way home, I'm not 100% sure DCT was in S3 mode again (may have forgot), so that's the only thing I can think of really.
I was planting my foot on the accelerator for sure as I'd read that previously!

I'm unsure if it limits you @M4conv? That's a new one to me...

Did a quick search can’t find anything on this, maybe just my memory. Do what cossie said, I did it on my F83 a couple of times and worked fine. But still got better better launch overall just going in full auto and no launch, clearly not a driving god. Never used it on my F80 or F97

LC is garbage, although it may depend on specific software version. I've tried it few times and it never worked. You can still launch the car in 4s to 60 without it.

So does it limit wheel spin automatically, or does it just light up the rear until it grips?

I also think you have to put quite a bit of pressure on the brake pedal - it may have a pressure switch that needs to be activated before it works ?

I tried this in my CP but could not get it to work. I think I was too ginger with the throttle and ended up on the brak stand on the gas at the same time without engaging launch. It never felt good and I lifted in sympathy for the mechanicals. Not tried it in the CS yet. Anybody go t the same experience and overcome it?

What's the difference between this and burnout mode?

fair enough just thinking of why the BMW Lc is inconsistent, thinking the ecu would need a trigger from the brake system to activate Lc which could simply be the brake light switch . I have M2 button set up so it should work all the time but it doesn't seem to like that ,wants you to go through all the above settings manually before it works

Yes, tyres can be the deciding factor in traction off the line

When using LC ( well when it eventually works ) i have zero wheel spin - without LC it lights the tyres up in the first 3 gears ( car is stage 2 running Cup2 tyres )

With hot Cup 2 tyres I imagine LC works very well indeed!
