I'm looking to figure out a way to fit my short (5 digit) plate. Currently I run the standard sized front plinth and a standard sized plate, but with my private reg (obviously).

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get a shorter plinth? I've considered making my own (3d printing as I have a printer) but it's at the limits of my machine at 300mm long.

The other option seems to be a Jap/US spec plinth (part no: 51118056774) but this will be too tall for sure, and even then might not be the right size. So I'm at a loss as to what to do.

Presumably someone else has fitted a short plate to the front of an F8x! :)

    Cheers

Get rid of the plate holder but you'll probably have the screw holes left over, which will mean they'd need filling and the bumper painting. Thinking about it, even if you go for a shorter plate holder, you'll still have screw holes showing on the bumper at either end of the plate holder no?

Otherwise, what you mentioned with the 3D printer is another option. I don't think you'll have much luck finding a shorter plate holder for UK plates.

Bumper is in for spraying right now - it's why now's the right time to get it done as like you say, the holes need filling. This is being done so I'll have a smooth 'undrilled' bumper shortly.

I'll look to see if I can get a jap plinth then I guess, and maybe mod it. That seems to be what a lot of the E46 lads did and it kinda worked!

thanks for the input - I'll keep thinking about it.

Why not stick it directly onto the paint with double sided tape? It doesn't really do any damage and the tape is fairly easy to remove with the right kit.

just because it then wouldn't sit square to the bumper and the plate would be angled down towards the ground.

Sort of see your point, but I don't think it'll be that noticeable.

What are you going to use to fix the plates to the holder? I have some gel plates that I need to stick on, but the tape didn't stick on at all on the front holder, the plate literally fell off.

Standard plinth. Cut & plastic weld ? That’s what I was planning on trying.

Not a fan of short plates, have a 4 digit on a normal plate and I think it emphasises it more, but that’s just me.:D

Exactly this - this is what I am going to try once the front bumper goes in post winter.

Alternatively seek out something from a 911 and custom that to shape front bumper - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192230431242

Just get a proper sized plate. Short plates look awful. Like someone has snapped the ends off and been unable to pull off the rest of the plate.

You need a short number plate bracket. Someone sells them but can’t remember where I saw it.

3d print a bracket that is shaped as per your bumper, to correct the alignment of the plate and stuck to your bumper on one side and the plate on the other?

There's an S3 near my work, with a 7 digit private plate and the plate has been cut so it start/ends right where the letters start/end

On the front, you can see screw holes towards the end of the plate, where a longer plate has been used and screwed into the bumper/holder/grill. The rear is stuck on to the boot.

Ironically, the last 3 letters say FKD, which looking at the number plates, is indeed FUCKED.

    In regards to that.

I personally think a full size proper plate would look better than that but each to their own.
