just looking for info/opinions is the s54 swap a noticeable increase over the s50b32?
looking for an increase in power at the end of the year so wanted to start collecting parts now, just unsure of best option either set of cams and airbox for the s50 or go down the s54 route. Ideally would like the car to be around 360 - 380.

I take it you have the s50 b32? Schrick cams are an option but I rememeber reading somewhere the piston speed on the b32 is really high already, so by camming it you might putting your engine under even more stress (could be utter bs to be fair) What do you use the car for? would you be doing the work yourself?

S54 has even higher piston speeds, but also has a lighter valvetrain and that's why it revs higher from stock.

Cheers for replys car is just used for track with plan on racing or time attack next year. After bang for buck really, dont want to be spending loads on a built engine if it can be done for less with a swap. So just wanted some views of people who have done it really to see if theres a noticeable difference, or if peoples dyno figures are bs and theres not that much in it

This will be THE engine swap once a stand alone loom and ecu have been manufactured. Whoever sorts that will be on a gold mine.

Do you know whats involved with swap?
I have thought about a 2jz swap but think it will ruin driveability of it

It's not really viable currently. You basically need most of the donor cars wiring loom. Soon someone will come up with a simple option though....

For £11k ish you can have a supercharged s54 and retain 100% of the drivability

N55 really? I know it's newer tech an all, but S50 and S54 are like the ultimate classic M recipe N/A engines.

I'm running and S54 in my E36 track car and it's an easy swap. I also run a Karbonious airbox and CSL clone ECU so good for around 360bhp, maybe more.

It's a great base if you are thinking about more power in the future. A supercharged like Tris has is my next step.

Putting an N55 into mt e36 touring sport, so will let you know. As i’m not messing about and want 600bhp plus i’m going straight to a aftermarket standalone ecu, will be making my own loom.

Also rape money, was ok when an s50 was £1500 and s54 £2500, just sold an s50b30 for £5k! So the n55 came to me at half that cost and will not struggle to make the numbers.

Yep you're right!, My 3.0 m3 188 diff was not happy with the extra power so I am going a slightly different route and fitting an e34 M5 210 casing with the rally road bullet proof diff mounting kit. It's good for 1000bhp apparently!

Scs delta do a ecu for the n55. Plug and play.
I have their delta ecu in my s54 swap, great company to work with and good product. Worth a phone call if you are going n55
