    Hi Cutters,

I've sent my steering wheel off to royal to be re-trimmed as the leather on the upper part of the wheel has worn through.

I have received an email today from Royal to advise that they will not be able to thicken the wheel due to this? They advised they will only be able to retrim it to original thickness (too thin for my linking)

I emailed back to say the whole reason i've sent the wheel in is to have it retrimmed, with the increased thickness as it looks a lot smarter.

I'm awaiting a response but wanted to get your thoughts?

    Thanks,
    M

I’m guessing they usually retrim over the existing leather on the wheel that’s what gives it extra thickness and because you’ve left it till it wore through they can no longer do it?? That’s me best guessing things though.

Try and find a cheap one on eBay and send that one to Royal instead? I know it’s a ball ache but if you’re going to the expense of retrimming, you may as well get it done properly

I've had 2 wheels done by Jack(e46 and e92) , and both times have felt slightly thicker than original

I quite fancy a thinner wheel! The wheel in my caddy van is thinner, and I like that. Also, looking at aftermarket wheels, they look thinner, but I can rule aftermarket out as I like my stereo controls and cruise control. And last weekend at the Ring, whilst perming at Porsche GT3s I noticed they looked to have thinner steering wheels too.

Hi macca - what do you mean by no leather on it at all? As in the original leather had worn right off the frame? Did royal charge the same rate to do it or advise that it was any more work? If you don't mind me asking how much was your retrim?

I just got my steering wheel back... They've made it to original thickness and not with extra padding as they do with other wheels. I did ask them to confirm that they'd be able to meet my requirements of making my worn sheen thicker but I didn't receive a response, instead, the following day got a message with tracking details saying the completed wheel was on its way back. Bit annoyed at the thickness (or thinness I should say) of this completed wheel.

If you’re not happy with it then take it up with them and explain that you tried to contact them and there was no response. Also explain that you weren’t given the chance to decide what you wanted to do as your original requirements couldn’t be met rather than them just retrimming it anyway.

    Cheers

@macca 1995 , did you send Jack a round steering wheel, and he returned a flat bottom one? I think it looks amazing. I really wanted one myself, until I had a five minute drive in an Audi with a flat bottomed wheel and hated it! Maybe it would just take a bit of getting used to!
