    Hi all,

There must be a way of doing this. The other night the car immobilized itself and it seems because the steering lock has failed. To get it recovered to a garage (off my drive way) I need to get it out of park.

I've already pushed up the little black clip to the left of the gear stick under the gaitor but it's still in park. To make it harder the car is on gravel so can't get underneath with a jack.

Can anybody advise me on how to do this please?

    Thanks!

When my 335i ‘s DCT got damaged by a rock and car needed to be towed Recovery guys followed a procedure in the manual.

It might be what you’ve done , as I remember the clip, but I think it was a bit more involving.

A quick look online has p64 of an owners manual describing such a procedure.

M3 post if the link doesn’t work. Page numbers are as per on pages (PDF pages seemed different)

How far did you push the black clip? It needs to go all the way forward from memory, but you have to do it with the key in the ignition I think, it then shows its gone into neutral

Thank you for the replies! It was the white clip I didn’t push far enough! Really appreciate the help!
