Hi all, thought I'd share this insight I got from my dealership.

As some may know I have a M3CP on order, I placed the order on 13th this month. At the time, I was told to expect details on when my estimated delivery date will be in approx. 2-3 weeks.

Today, my dealership emailed me this:

I am okay with having to wait until start of June to be offered a build date.

But concerned that they are indicating that due to the chip shortage, some of the optional extras may not be available now...

    Has anyone else heard anything?

Good to know sbm007. I had planned to put an order in on Weds next week but am starting to think I might wait 6 months and look to take delivery Mar 1st 2022. This might start the flow of additional support and I really don't need a car at present.

It is a known problem atm, that the semi conductors are in short supply. I dont think manufacture can keep up with demand, from what ive heard. Its for parts fitted to virtually any electrical system, from what i gather, ie sound systems, navigation, HUDs, etc. There was talk on another forum, that the HUD was to be withdrawn, but i dont think that has happened. I ordered my car in Jan, and i had heard these things, but it came through in around 10/11 weeks, with everything i wanted, so i would keep my cup half full at this time, good luck with it buddy :)

Thanks, I'll see what they say in June, fingers crossed I get lucky.

I am not going to compromise on the spec, I rather just cancel the order and order next year if I can't have HUD, HK, etc.

I ordered on the 23rd April, originally quoted July delivery but told it will be late June now. No mention of bits not being available so far so I hope it stays that way!

I think it’s easy to forget that a lot of the world is still in CV19 lockdown. We are very lucky here in U.K. and sometimes overlook that fact.

OP - I had heard the same too. Sit tight and good luck with your delivery

The chip shortage is a big problem at the moment. Lead times of some components are now being quoted at 52 weeks and that is so that a factory can be built to produce them! If the automotive giants are struggling imagine how the rest of the electronics sector have been hit!

This has been an issue for some time and likely to continue for a 12-18 months from what I'm seeing. PC components like processors and graphics cards are in short supply and you're having to pay nearly double RRP to get your hands on some items.

Sure I read some car manufacturers had already started mothballing some factories due to supply chain issues like this.

TBH, this has been known about for some time so BMW should have been factoring this into their production schedules.

    Hopefully OP isn't impacted.

Dealers always love a little supply chain drama .

Can only help them IMO, as the spike in car sales can't go on for ever.

I dabbled for a bit. I have 1 ETH left which I paid $275 and is now worth $2750 and a few other bits which have all increased recently. It's a full-time job trading in crypto and I already have one.

I did have 0.6 bitcoins once, now it would be worth $35k.

Don't get me started on bitcoin. When it first took off when they were trading around $100 I used to have 4 mining rigs going and had about 43 bitcoins. At today's price would have been worth £1.7M.

Held most of them all they way up until they hit $1000 and then got out before they crashed again. So done ok really.

Did keep about 1.5 that I'm just going to sit on. So not the end of the world. :D
