I'm looking for an owner's manual for a UK-market 1996 M3 Evolution.

Does the correct one look like this?

Or this?

I don't suppose there's a copy online anywhere? I tried Googling, but without success....

Cheers,
Jeff.

Evo is the latter one. (first one with the color coded mesh is for eatly models)

You can still get these new from dealer.

p.s. it's the same cover the model years. If you want the very specific manual applicable for your MY and correct language, look it up online.

Be careful: my May 26 1995 3.0 litre 'loon has the later one - so its not just EVO.

True: it was only months later (Sept ?, Oct? 1995 ) the EVO came out.

Mine's July 1996, so well away from the transition period.

I've ordered one from the dealer, and bought another on eBay (wrong year, but it's the cheapest way to get the wallet).

There is a date ‘stamp’ in the manual. If it’s later than your 5/95 car, it would be an incorrect one.
I.e do you know it’s the one that came with your car?

> The wallet?

The leather (or leatherette?) thingy that holds the documents.

E36's never came with a proper 'pouch' as I would call it. Just a transparent piece of plastic shaped in something pouch.

Interesting. I wonder if that's market-specific? (Lots of complete sets available on eBay, though maybe that just means everyone bought an aftermarket pouch/wallet to replace the clear one....)

I bet the latter. I'm pretty sure many of the clear ones are either ripped apart, or yellowed beyond recogntiion.

I have two sets of manuals. One with all the original ones, in plastic pouch and one set of brand new ones (the original ones have crooked corners and such) in a black (fake) leather pouch with BMW stamped logo. I didn't want the later ones wth colored roundel.

This is mine. I’m pretty sure it’s from new as it has the supplying dealers salesman’s cards in it etc. Grey plastic.

That could’ve been transfered.
But who knows?

My old 3.0 had the same, looked like it had been through a war but it was present. May have been something the dealer added to be fair

This is the one I got off eBay. Probably not original, but it's real leather (the scuffing isn't as bad as it looks under camera flash).

I have the same. I’d be surprised of that is real leather. Feels pretty plasticy.

Might have made more than one version. Mine, if plastic, is pretty convincing (in both feel and grain).

My early (PFL) Evo came with the wallet from the factory, it had the original paperwork, warranty, dealer documentation, radio codes, etc, all in individual pockets and it's embossed with the BMW logo. I am the second owner and I purchased the car before internet shopping was much more than books on Amazon, the probability of the wallet/folder being aftermarket or dealer equipped is approaching zero.
