Now that the cold weather is upon us, I think my outside temperature sensor is playing up.

I had the car out for a run yesterday and then stopped off at the shops. When I got back into the car, the temperature display was +20 degrees. When I stared driving, the temperature slowly kept dropping down till it reached +5 degrees. I do think that was about the right temperature.

Today it did the same thing. Temperature starts really high then steadily drops down till it reaches what I think is the correct temperature.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Might sound like a silly question, but where is your car parked? Although that’s quite a big temp range, reason I ask is because mine always shows a few degrees warmer due to where I park it, and then drops as it’s out in the open air

It's possible the fans were on too, if the engine was hot. They can stay on a while even after the engine's been shut down. The hot engine air could easily have been exiting near the sensor, which may account for it. I think if the sensor was faulty, it would be giving you some very extreme readings - or none at all.

Likely heat soak from engine, radiators etc

although it’s a big difference you are reporting
