I’m a beginner and never driven on a track. I have been to a few track days this year and sat as a passenger. Oulton Park is my nearest track. I have been around as a passenger. My friend has done 5 track days in his e36 and has booked Oulton park for November. He has told me that it should be a perfect first track day for me. I have been looking at videos and it seems quite technical and not much run off. Will I be making a mistake booking it? I will be driving a e46 m3 which has had track mods on it.

I’m local to Oulton and absolutely love it, it was my first track day years ago, I’d book tuition as it will help a lot. I’m actually there on the 17/11

You won't be making a mistake booking it.

You're unlikely to be hit by another car on a track day, the danger is whether you overdrive relative to your current ability and fall off.

Oulton is a fast, very technical circuit that is one of the most punishing circuits for brakes in the UK. That said, it's only hard on brakes if you're pushing on ;)

Just turn up and take your time learning the circuit and build up your speed throughout the day. Expect to have to move out of the way for cars with nominal power who will be much faster if they know their way around.

Enjoy it! If the weather is poor just exercise more caution than normal.

I’ll be there on the 6th :) I started doing track days 9 years ago and my first day was at Oulton.

A lot of people suggest starting off at a boring flat track like Bedford but I found Oulton to be great for my first day as it makes you drive well within your means.

It’s my favourite circuit in the UK, can’t wait to get back on the 6th!

Thanks guys, will take it very easy and get used to the track. Very stupid question but on the e46. Should I keep the traction on for the first few laps and then turn it off or should I leave it on for the whole duration? Also what about if its raining.

If you have driven only with it on, then leave it on.

Learning how the car behaves with no driver aids on a slippery autumnal Oulton Park is a terrible idea.

agree with the above. it will be slippy even if its dry, oulton in the autumn is always a tad moist!

I did my first track day a few years ago now with the Bmw CC and at Oulton so I know what your thinking, first thing I would say having now done many track days at many tracks with many different companies since, the BMWCC days are excellent for a novice, they can be quite at times and there seems to be a massive lack of nobheads also which also helps.

Oulton is tight in places and lacks run off so caution is advised but the main thing is just enjoy it! I did, now im hooked! happy to take you out if you wanted to, just let me know.
