I have the base system (which contrary to common opinion, I find not too dire) and am aware of the Alpine hi-fi system retrofit kit (65 41 0 445 684).

But I was wondering, has anyone retrofitted the full DIRAC Individual Audio System with 16 speakers?

From what I've heard, the Individual Audio System can't (easily) be retrofitted (if at all).

Not easy at all, have to change all the cabling to fibre optic??
Massive difficult expensive task, not worth retrofitting at all.

When I sold my M performance exhaust to a fellow cutter last year I recall him telling me that he had the Individual audio (I think or may have been professional audio) retro fitted by Anthony the site sponsor for Viper alarm upgrades, If anyone can do it this guy can, he is a total electronics wizard who knows M3's inside out, He would be my first port of call.

If you do get it done it is worth it. The individual audio bangs! The feature I will miss most now that I am selling her.

You can retrofit a better system for much less cost of the Individual, most people code to HIFI and drop the optic amp when upgrading passed the basics. But if your not one for that the Individual is meant to be ace as is (some say lacking in bass but ive never heard it to say otherwise).

On the bass it's a bit of an all rounder and the focus is on crisp quality sound rather than big bass. I have had a couple of big systems in previous cars (some high jl audio, genesis etc) and they do sound better, but tbh can't be bothered with the wires, flat batteries, cutting holes etc.

Have to say I've heard individual audio and previously my E90 had logic 7 pro audio.

Individual is great but I preferred the logic 7 for exactly that reason. It had loads of bass and for the sort of music I like just sounded better IMO

    Thanks all.

Clearly Individual Audio is a bridge too far.

US fora also show the pitfalls of un-researched upgrades where people spend a fortune and end up with sound worse than before!

    More research I think.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but it is possible, its pretty straight forward TBH. The hard part is sourcing the parts.

Is it possible to add a trunk sub to the individual system?

Yes. I added your old sub (which subsequently got stolen)

Then I ran the same sub amp to the standard individual audio underseat subs for some great results.

    Stolen!?

But I had Hifi on my last M3, but I"m fitting a individual audio this time. Does it require special wiring, LOC converter ...? I don't want to power the underseat sub, just add a sub to the trunk like before but heard it might be more difficult with individual audio

Wasn’t it your boot build that I bought from you a few years ago?

It’s fairly easy to install on individual audio if you have the right parts.

I’ve still got the wiring, LC2i converter and JL digital amp if anyone’s interested

Waiting for rear parcel shelf and other bits for my individual retro fit. Maybe ask you for help and those parts to add a sub??

Does it require any cutting to original loom? Or can we make a new plug and play loom?

I’ve already got the individual but want to know what tweeters does it use in the wing mirror triangle trims, are they individual tweeters??

Foe Alpine upgrade kit you need tweeters in the triangle corners of doors. On E90 saloon it looks like a pain as the triangle is molded into door surround so entire surround needs to be replaced from what I can see.

Can anyone confirm for E90 M3?

If you have eps then all he speakers are the oem individual speakers.

So yes. The tweeters will be eps.
