I've been looking at this, same car. I think Castrol Edge 5-30 M is the recommended Castrol oil.

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-197425-castrol-edge-5w-30-m-fst-fully-synthetic-car-engine-oil.aspx

I'd be interested to see other oil recommendations for the S55 engine. The S54 specified Castrol only so I think it's a safe bet.

I've been led to believe it's actually 0W30, this sits better with me as the S55 was designed with this oil in mind and also, as mines a new car, the 0W30 will provide better cold start protection.

It's booked in for RIS in a few weeks and they confirmed they will replace with 0W30.

That's interesting. Are you providing your own oil?

Yes, got it from eBay from a BMW dealership who sell on there, got a proper BMW invoice etc too with relevant part numbers.

Me too for about three years now. Lots of track days, winter use and motorway miles. The car definitely runs smoother on this stuff than Castrol.

Hi. Some oil advice please...

Make: bmw
Model: 330ci
Year: 2005
Engine type: 3lt petrol
Performance modifications: none
Driving style: (road / off-road / track etc) road

The car uses a bit of oil now being at 150k miles. About 1/2 Litre every 500 miles which is mostly short journeys. Is there an oil recommendation that may reduce this. Also no oil leaks as valve cover gasket was replaced recently. Cheers. G

Standard oil is 10w-60, originally it was recommended Castrol and that is still very popular. You don't have to use that though, any good quality 10w-60 synthetic from a reputable manufacturer will be fine, so we also find Fuchs Titan Race and the Millers CFS NT+ very popular as well as they are group V ester synthetics.

Have a look here https://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-662-10w60-engine-oil.aspx

You will need about 5.5ltr for an oil change.

Cheers,

Guy

Gone are the days of M series engines having their own oil recomendations outside of the BMW envelope, now they just use the same spec as other BMW cars.

For your F80 it is the BMW LL12FE 0W-30 you will need. Even with a few mods, no need to step away from that. We have a few to choose from https://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-3403-bmw-longlife-12-fe-engine-oil.aspx
