Another update on this saga.. I met the guy at the dealership this morning who was going to uplift the car for me. They took us round the back of the building where my car was sitting (looking lovely in the sun) and the recovery guy almost had a panic attack looking at how low the front end was (its not lowered) and was also paranoid about damaging the carbon fronts getting onto his truck thing. Only the handbrake is working just now and he also didn't want to drive it forward to get it on. So he decided to bail and gave me the number of some other guy who might beable to get it done.

I couldn't be ****d anymore with all the fannying about, so went back in to dealership and told service advisor to order new calipers and get them fitted. Will be about 1.5k but at this point I just want the damn thing fixed. Will take the hit this time and learn a lesson about bleed nipples. Will get old ones refurbed and claw back some of the cash for the new ones.
**** that, i'd rather have chanced it, using the handbrake to get me to the garage.

Thing is by the time your using the BMW extended warranty they will have approved the claim or not to carry out the work. Once its approved you just have to suck it up and accept the fact that the work may or may not be done right but your not paying!

In the OP's case they wouldn't approve the warranty claim and didn't do the work right!

Yeah, I guess so - I'm tempted to extend with basic cover and high excess just to cover the expensive ticket items and otherwise minimise my dealer involvement. Still not sure if having it serviced elsewhere at an Indy would impact a warranty claim on say something like the turbo seals going in the future. I don't think they would be allowed to, but not sure and haven't had the small print through yet until I get closer to my AUC warranty expiry date...

FFS, feel for you mate! I can kinda see why you caved though but the stealer is still quids in even though they've been f'ing useless! Is there no chance you can raise it with BMW UK again, or maybe have a face to face with the dealership principal to put your case forward - you've nothing to lose now apart from trying to reduce the £1.5k as much as you can through being an annoying c*** ;)

Me too - mine's due in November so I think I am going to take it back to the dealer where I got the car from and where I have AUC warranty. My AUC warranty expires in September so I think I'll try and book the brake service and MOT in a little early so I can make sure I'm still covered by warranty (which it seems isn't a guarantee anyhow).

Well, I most certainly wouldn't be doing the same thing but it's your money.

I'd be doing it myself in their f'ing car park.
Exactly this, surely you must know someone that has a trolley jack, axle stands and can remove the callipers? Take the callipers away, get them fixed and refit.

I could see the dealer not playing ball though, probably giving some excuse about insurance on their property.

Have a wander into your local paper and appraise them of the situation and see if they are interested in accompanying you to the dealership to discuss you working on the car?

Sounds like you’ve got nothing to loose here now, even to the extent that I’d be seeking legal advice about getting the car fixed and then not paying the bill! See if they could argue this in a small claims court. Depends whether £1500 is worth the hassle or the principle!

Probably too late now but why don’t you get them to remove the calipers , still get the guy who was going to do the job to fix the calipers and then get BMW to refit? Might save you a bit?

Even if they are half way through the job now and have ordered the calipers, just tell them you’ve changed your mind, bugger them about a bit!

However, with the iDrive being the service history now, if an Indy has the tech to fill it in maybe things could change?

The more i read about BMW AUC warranty, the less upset I am that I went independent for my M4 purchase! I'm using Graham Martin in Warrington for all my big services, they can update the idrive so records are maintained.

At least make sure you get your old calipers back off them, repair those and you could then sell them to recoup some of the cost.

No doubt once the job is done they will prob say they need the old ones in exchange.

This scares me with BMW I have had poor experience in the past. My M3 is 3 years old in September and I was planning to extend the warranty but now I’m just not sure if I should. I’m also worried about the potential big ticket items like crank hub.

Can anyone recommend a good BMW Indy garage in Bristol?

Bumping an old thread.

My M3 went in to my local BMW dealer on the 7th of November for its brake fluid change. Guess what, they snapped off a bleed nipple on one of the front calipers. I made a point of spraying plus gas on all the outer nipples 2 days prior as I knew it could be a problem. I’ve unseized bleed nipples before with various methods and never snapped one! Mine has only done 31k and always been serviced by the supplying dealer from new ( one who broke nipple ). Pretty much garaged all the time and rarely driven in rain. It also has the Carbon ceramic brakes and the gold calipers are totally unmarked on the faces. I’ve left it with them to sort out and they have agreed to pay for a repair. Annoyingly I have had two updates saying caliper due back the following day, last Monday and then Wednesday last week. Heard nothing since so god knows what’s going on. Luckily I was picking up a new Touareg black edition the day of the brake fluid change so don’t have any need to drive the M3. MOT runs out 27th November but I’m loathed to let BMW MOT it, I’ve lost all confidence in them. Cant believe it’s taken 2 weeks for a simple job.

Sorry to hear this OP and sadly my experience of Mason dealers is similar , poor quality work overpriced !

I had a 2 year old M2c with 10k on clock with a siezed nipple….
Main dealers don’t care about your car let’s be honest, it’s more get it in get it out as fast as possible and get into the next job.
Personally if my car went into a main dealer for this job (it never will in my ownership) I’d have had all the wheels off and made sure all 8 bleed nipples were freed off.

Yes, I’ll free them off beforehand next time if I still have it in 2 years. Comes to something when you have to free off your own bleed nipples before taking it to a main dealer!

Update:

Rang dealer this morning as not heard from them for a week, they have fitted a brand new CCB front caliper FOC. The old one wouldn’t seal after repair. Can’t ask for more than that. I’m very happy with the outcome.
