I bought my e46 m3 at the end of September, since then it has been garaged due to winter and not wanting to lose out on an additional NCB and current insure wouldn't change vehicle over.
The cars got minor mods in my eyes, uprated brakes, suspension refresh with a less than 5cm drop on the springs it's on and the Geoff steel airbox.
I'm 23 will have 4 years(touch wood) ncb and have had my licence for 6 years. I've now tried multiple specialist but none will even quote me? For my age I've had reasonably competitive results from comparison sites around the 2k mark but just wondering why the specialists can't give me any quotes and is there any way to get it lower. Would you put the car back to standard?

    Cheers

    Ali

The specialists bumped me from £350year to £2k on renewal. Ended up with a rugular company for the £350 by forgetting the specialists.

For some reason they don't want to know like they did back in the day, I say **** em, their loss

Not tried CCI will have a google now. Insurance isn't due till April but I like to get a ballpark figure in mind. I know it's going to be expensive being 23 with a modified m3 but 2k+ is expensive when 300+bhp isn't even fast anymore when there's golf capable of this power etc.
Are CCI reputable, are you insured with them.

Won't quote me buddy and the advisor I spoke to last time wasn't any help and a bit rude if I'm honest.

I will try them, just everyone usually recommends specialists as they are meant to be better than normal insurers. Yet it seems I'm getting judged on age and car before even being considered for a quote. Thanks anyway will see how I get on.

Get a quote online, save it, then ring up and say "but I have these mods" and see what happens

Again would not quote the car for some reason may try again as this was last year around December if that had anything to do with it. Hoping it comes down as 2k+ is a bit steep but I'm beginning to come to terms with it now.

Specialists for your age (you mention 23 above) would be a waste of time from my experience when I was that age. Try Admiral, Directline and Aviva. Directline and Aviva are not on comparison sites so you need to go to their website and get a quote.

It’s the airbox that’s doing it mate. I take it it’s probably got an alpha n remap if you have a Geoff steel airbox. They don’t like remaps so trying doing away with that.

Previous owner hasn't removed the original maf, so it's not had a genuine map at all as far as I'm aware just had a csl rev matching. I've declared my mods and managed to get insurance down to 1450ish, which for my age I'm pretty happy with considering before Christmas prices were up at 2500.
Earliest I can take out insurance will be March 19th I've got it all set ready to buy etc and I'll be finally on the road in April .

Genuinely like a kid in a candy shop I can't wait. As for specialist they wouldn't quote me due to age and lack of experience with a performance car so I'm hoping next year will be a bit better. Once the first year is out of the way.

Thanks for all the advice from everyone yet again this forum is showing just how helpful the community actually is.

Admiral came back the cheapest price wise and would allow me to insert my modifications so that who I will be going with.

Its the risk factors involved. Your age is primarily the big thing because statistics don't lie drivers your age are more likely to total the car.

Depends on your postcode and if that specific model has a tendenacy to get written off.

End of the day buy an M3 at your age you have to take it on the chin and pay the premium if wanting a nice car.

Yeah I definitely understand that mate just didn't think it would be that expensive but have managed to get it to what I would now consider acceptable for my age and car etc. Just hope it does drop in a about 18 months time when I look to progress onto something newer and more powerful
