You mean you didn’t declare it at customs and pay the duty.
Flew home with it on my wrist.
Dealers that buy ex stock from branded dealers and sell on brand new, certified, with guarantee, etc. at a discount.
When I emailed Watch Buyers UK they asked what watch I was interested in and when I wanted to buy it. Availability wasn't a problem & I they were £1,500+ cheaper than RRP.
Don't know if they can get what you want , but it must be worth an email.
I should move into politics!
Really! The UK is probably the cheapest place on the planet to buy Rolex's watches. So whilst you might be able to avoid paying the import duty, I doubt that will be enough to cover your flight. Unless you bought something like a platinum Daytona?
Not sure that will help Rory, the Daytona he wants retails at £9550.00. Watchbuyers have a 1yr old one at £19995.00!
So if I wanted into goldsmiths and said look I want this Daytona. How long would I have to wait to pay £9550?
Depends, I’ve been told it’s almost impossible to get unless you’re really friendly with your AD, a really good client or just pure lucky. I put my name down at a dealer in Spain, that was three years ago.....
But if the model you want isn’t readily available in the UK (unless you can get on a dealers waiting list) your only other option is to buy abroad, or pay something getting on for 200% RRP on the second hand market.
The watch he’s after you cannot just walk into a dealer and pay RRP and all second hand ones are extortionately priced.
That’s the way with stainless steel Rolex’s.
But if they can find a new one from a dealer it could a) be available now, b) possibly be a better price than list.
Buy new abroad £12k
Buy in UK second hand £19k
3 years!!!! That’s utterly mental.
To be honest, I’m surprised it doesn’t put more people off the brand rather than make it more desirable.
If I couldn’t get a watch for 3 years, or even a year, I’d find another one I liked and buy that instead.
Probably 10 years as a walk in, 5 yrs as a regular customer!
The problem is even abroad is impossible to get anything. Every time I travel I try to have a look at what is available and not had any luck.
It's completely nuts and it makes me so p*ssed off with Rolex.
But having tried the watch on I cannot get it out of my mind!
My thoughts exactly I'm ready to get a Rolex Submariner now, and it looks like I'm not going to be able to get one. Might have to buy another Omega instead, which some will say is actually a better watch brand than Rolex!
the problem with the readily available Rolex's is that none of them look very nice, hence why you can walk into a dealer and buy one.
Don't think I've seen a gold (not white gold) Rolex that I like, Daytona's aside.
My friend always has a Rolex of some description for sale as it’s a little hobby of his. He’s got 3 at the minute and an Omega. He’s not on here but I can find out what he’s got and put you in touc( with him.
My AD said 5+ years
10+ for the GMT or Hulk Subs
