Another 85mm longer? So how long before it becomes a 5 series?

Absolutely ridiculous, car spaces getting smaller , roads getting more crowded, streets narrower and as always cars bigger

Why do all manufacturers think we want bigger

I think that makes it just 9.5cm shorter than an M5

    M5 Saloon 485cm
    M6 Saloon 487 cm
    M3 Saloon (F80) 467cm

    Plus 8.5cm = 475.5

The M2 is practically the same size as the E46 M3, but has a smaller feel and smaller boot space.

Personally I think the design looks as if its aimed at the Chinese market... which just happens to be where BMW is desperately aiming to be the number 1 luxury brand.

The rear qtr and rear qtr bumper look hideous as do the grilles (I'm not a fan of the latest 5 series for the same reason)

Much like the e46, e9x, f3x, e8x, e6x I hated them all at first and grew to like them all (less so the f3x series), I'll reserve judgement until I see it in the metal.

I thought familiarity breeds contempt? Seems the opposite with BMW design!

I quite like it but lets be honest it's only a mass produced car. Its never going to draw us in like a Mazda 6 or a peugeot 405 which are design classics. Toyota carisma, now that was one sexy body shape!!! 3 series can never compete against a design classic.

    Yuk.

The designs are looking more eastern influenced I agree.

Funny, even Volvo are looking more German than BMW these days :muttley:

I can't get the comparison of this looking like one of the pigs from angry birds out of my head. Just looking at the front, it just looks like one of them.

seems like it's good looking, ****e looking car, then good looking again...

    e30, looks nice
    e36, sorry, nope
    e46 looks nice
e9x just not inspiring, and don't like it
f8x again, nice looking, good lines

and then this one, just looks bulbous, something totally not right with the proportions

Don't like the M's lumpy front bumper. Or the fact that it is bigger.

Thats the problem with cars targeted for Global markets. Design trends will tend to favour those where they sell more (or looking to take a large slice out of). China is a huge market for prestige brands at the moment.

Its one of the reasons, lately, most cars models looked quite samey (I'm constantly confused between C/E/S classes, and A4/A6 models!) - Manufacturers have been pushing their 'family DNA' design cues to create brand familiarity in new/emerging markets.

I think it looks nice enough and in the flesh will look much better.

The M340i looks like it will end up being great value for money as an ex demo etc

suggested figures are 0-62 in 4.4 380bhp - no doubt you might be able to get a power pack for it too.

Seems there will be some actual tinkering from M on the suspension and other departments so it seems like a good half way house if you don't want to or cant go all out for an M3/M4
