    Hello all,

    Recently acquired a 2004 E46 M3 coupe (manual)

Not exactly a 'dream' car of mine but an icon from my not too distant youth.
I hope to gain a better understanding of the car here - and gain recommendations in subtle modifications, maintenance, and overall running of the car.

Being a 6 owner car, i'm sure some of the former owners are on here too

So far since buying the car I've had an alpine head unit fitted (bought the car without a head unit) and a professional speaker install front and rear with the factory speaker grilles still in place and nothing 'cut' or modified permanently, though I can now enjoy some podcasts/music on longer drives.

Look forward to maybe meeting some fellow M-Car enthusiasts too...
I am a keen photographer and enjoy automotive photography especially.

Next up for the car is to replace one of the rusted fenders, and respray the front end (lots of stone chips) - if someone can recommend someone close to Guildford i'm all ears!

Having the car inspected by Walkers autotech next week - https://walkersautotech.co.uk/

Some images of the car now that I can add them...

    First wash/wax 2 weeks ago:

Then it was over to John Kleis in Reading to get the audio sorted:

New door speakers, tweeters, and sound deadening

    New parcel shelf speakers

Amp to drive everything, and wiring loom

Topped it off with an apple carplay/ android auto compatible head unit

Sounds great now, windows down or up - take your pick :D

First long drive for the car last weekend, to the lake district (600 mile round trip) - had my front number plate fall off, had to stop at halfords for a new one - my drivers side door mirror came off too, there was some 3M sticky pads that hasn't been used so just peeled the backs off those and it stuck :roflmao: pretty innocent things that went wrong...

On the way back had a TPMS fault but pressures were fine so probably need new sensors also. Overall very happy with it, next step is to fix rust on front RHS fender and stone chips on front.

There's a TPMS reset procedure on here, try that, worked for mine, for now anyway.
    Enjoy the car, looks good.

Will give that a go! Thank you

Long press on the centre console button seemed to reset it but it came back shortly after.

Only been for short drives since, but hasn't come back... yet - will search for the reset.

That's what I was doing on mine, and it kept coming back on, when driving longer faster journeys. Did a search on here, found a 3/4 step procedure which has kept the light off.

welcome pal - like the audio touches. What sort of price range did they cost....if you don't mind? a range will suffice, conscious folks can spend as much/little as they like. Just looking for an idea to prioritise my jobs.

Also, have you figured out what work the car has had? if you don't mind, i spotted the gear knob/short-shift. Wheels looks freshly diamond-cut. Stance looks lower than stock - do you know what springs are on it. How did the inspection go?

gees....didn't think i'd ask that many questions. Ta pal - all the best for your journey!

Did the reset as detailed in the handbook - thanks for the heads up. Oddly the red light came on about 400 miles after I had inflated the tyres to proper pressure (2.4 front 2.6 rear). Long press to get rid of the red, stopped car, engine off, few days later (next drive) long press to get yellow, drove to shops and back - seems ok for now  not a big deal if it comes back on :p expect a car of this age to have quirks.

Cheers dude - all stemmed from the car not having a stereo in the first place so I thought while the head unit alone would be near enough £800... might as well have a proper job done and get my value from the head unit as I didn't actually know what condition the speakers and/or cabling would be in...

Justification for me was that i'll use this car for long trips so having connection with my phone and decent sound was important.

I went with what the installer called 'entry level' but to untrained ears I think this would pretty much be better than any car (within reason) would come from the factory with. It's certainly better than other in-car bose/HK systems that i've listened to.

Total for the job was £2079.99 inc VAT

    £400 - Labour (3 days)
    £799 - Alpine ILX-702D
    £110 - Audison Prima 6.5" 2x rear 2way coax speakers
£200 - Hertz Energy 2x front component (separate mid and tweeter) speakers
    £200 - Hertz 4ch amp
£350 - carpet, sound proofing, sound deadening, cabling
    £20 - phone mount

In terms of jobs the car has had:
    Springs are Eibach lowering springs
    Bilstein shocks
All strut mounts and rubbers are factory BMW but all new
Wheel and shifter have been retrimmed
Short shifter is the cheap BMW swap with 330d (or similar) I believe

Wheels have been refurbed a while ago, look better in the photos than reality but still decent looking.

Inspection is next week - i'll let you know how that goes
It's had sub-frame repair, rod bearings, head gasket work done already

Small update on the car after the inspection from Walkers Autotech:

Exhaust hangar needed to be replaced @ £120
Front Strut mounts were on the wrong sides... £220 to swap them
Rear disc backing plate was missing £175
Oil was a little low £15
Headlight sensor arm was broken £95
    Full inspection cost £84

So a total of £709 to bring it up to a condition i'm happy with and peace of mind... could have been worse

Subframe repair checked out and general condition very good.

Next step is to replace rusted fender and respray the front end  though this may need to wait till my next paycheque :p

    Looks like a nice motor.

What’s the mileage and how much did you pay for it if you don’t mind me asking?
