    Monaro VXR - bought one!

Looked online and can't find too many forums for these and certainly not any current threads from owners.

Has anybody got any experience with them? Looking to buy a new car for around £10k and always liked these and are rare enough not to see any on the roads.

I know the mpg is awful but not bothered about that, more concerned about repair bills? Does anything actually go wrong with them? All I can see is its just a big ass engine and nothing else, what can go wrong lol? Guessing parts are hard to get hold of being imports. As long as it'll on average cost the same as an E46 M3 to maintain then I'll be happy.

For that budget an E46 is probably the best car to buy out of everything but I've had loads of 3 series' for the past 10 years and need to try something else I think.

Will be used as a daily by the way. Any info appreciated and before you say it, I know off the mark they aren't as quick as people think but that doesn't bother me because they look so much fun doing it.

I liked the Monaro's and they are cool to hear but the interior especially the steering wheel puts me off compared to like you say the competitors of something like an E46.

I saw a CLS 55 AMG in the classifieds on here for 10k, would this not be worth considering? Nice inside and out with arguably one of the coolest power plants underneath

I agree about the steering wheel and dashboard, is very Vauxhall. But I do like the look of the interiors, those rear seats lol ace.

I did see that merc thread but they look huge! I actually do really want a merc. The sensible option was to buy a c220 but keeping looking to see what Amg's I could get. The sl55 are still too expensive and I'm not sure I would trust an older cl55 or whatever cheaper ones are available.

I think the Monaro is the number one choice as long as there's no horror stories with them (I know that's hard because there internet only ask question when things break). I really need to view and test drive one. Will have to be the 6.0 through because they look plain without the VXR styling.

Even though they look really nice we all know it's the sound of them that makes us want them. Luckily most for sale already have the wortec exhaust on, they sound like thunder :muttley:

If you could bust the budget a bit, what about an RS4 best of both worlds ??

Not a fan really and aren't they known for extremely high bills?

I always find that any Audi seems to date badly compared to other cars.

I admit that being a Vauxhall isn't a positive thing :muttley:

It's hard trying to find a car that I like that isn't a bmw. I've always had them but I just fancy a change. I just know that in the end I'm going to end up with a 335!

It's not a Vauxhall really, just a different badge on a Holden. The 6.0 VXR was the only car I was looking at before buying the 46 M, couldn't find one that wasn't silver and good spec otherwise could have been a different story. Absolute machine they are and I love the looks and sound, I still keep my eyes open for them

Well it is a Vauxhall. Holden is owned by GM and so is Vauxhall just the same as in Europe some Vauxhalls are badged Opel.

There is a lot of silver and red ones for sale but I don't mind them, they look good in any colour. Has got to be a VXR though, not keen on the earlier ones.

I'll have to fit some Holden badges on it ha.

Do you mean like the mk5 Astra Vxr that makes 240bhp from a 2.0 turbo 0-62mph in 6.2 and goes on to 152mph
Or the Vectra Vxr that makes 251 bhp from a 2.8 turbo and does 0-62 in 6.5 seconds and goes to 161mph.
Whatever you may think of the badge Stuart the sporty ones they make are cheap and cheerful with a competive turn of speed even if lacking a little in some other areas.
I used to really like my older vauxhalls I had the cavalier gsi which was one of my favourite cars ive owned and I also had the Vectra gsi after that which was a great car lazy 2.5 v6, lovely electric recaro seats and capable of around 150mph.

They are a bit naughty. Still other options in that price range though.

Not a fan of VXR-8, if I wanted a 4/5 door then I'd be looking at a 5 series I think or for the money they go for may as well put a bit extra and get an M5 or C63 lol.

I shouldn't have anything wrong with a Vauxhall badge. I was one of the biggest nova nuts going growing up and absolutely loved them :muttley:

Monaro over an E46 M3? Why would you?
