Having posted about taking the plunge a week or two back I picked up my new fun car last Sunday Dece 29th.

Now I am quite happy to admit I am a dedicated McLaren guy and this will be my third in the past three years. McLarens split opinions and are not everybody's cup of tea but for me they are the car that Senna drove at his peak and the people who built the F1. The was enough to get me interested a long time ago. They are also incredibly well engineered (that's not the same as built I admit !) and the way they drive, in particular the steering, is absolutely phenomenal. Anybody who tells you a Mclaren is a dull drive hasn't spent much, if any time in one. Yes there are n\a cars out there that sound better but for the money (and more) nothing (IMO) is quite as engaging. This particular car, the 600LT, has been repeatedly hailed as a more rewarding experience than a 488 Pista which I would suggest is high praise indeed. I can't afford a Pista but I can a standard 488 and this is just a much more engaging car for the type of driving I want to do in it. Closest thing to it is a GT3 RS.

    Anyway about the car.

It's a 600BHP, 3.8 V8 twin turbo with a carbon chassis and in the the case of the Spider a folding composite roof and drop down rear window (this can be done with roof up too which is great for noise when it's cold and wet).

The LT is rawer, louder, stiffer, and faster than the standard car with. a fair bit of weight stripped )I add most of it back it in :( ) , fixed engine mounts, revised suspension, quicker gearshift, tighter steering, added aero including big rear wing, more aggressive throttle mapping, bigger brakes (taken from 720) and the brake booster from the Senna. Most obvious addition is the top mount exhausts whichregulalrly (and yes I have trie dit) belch blue flame and make a tremendous crack on gearshifts via ignition cut.

My car is in chicane effect (a special colour unique to LTs) which is a type of grey that looks matt in dull light but actually has a an orange metallic fleck running through it which come out in the sunlight. The interior is black alcantara with orange belts and stitching - It was important to me to have orange featuring as it's the Mac heritage colour. The seats are the optional P1 carbon fibre slide only buckets which are bolted to the chaises at the owners required height and rake. Other options are super lightweight alloys, McLaren orange calipers for the standard carbon brakes, carbon interior including the must have extended shift paddles, electrically adjustable steering column, vehicle lift (essential !) rear camera, and lastly the upgraded B&W twelve speaker stereo.

So far I have done about 500 mile sin it and early impressions are massively positive. The car had an externally thorough PDI and is also PPFed and detailed. angers crossed it remains in great fettle. It's incredibly fast but also managers to feel very very quick at sensible (ish) speeds thanks to the combination of nice and roof off. Beyond the obvious sensations what what really impresses is the ability to change direction sop precisely and stop incredibly quickly.

I've plenty planned with this car including a lengthy ten day trip around the the app and Pyrenees later in the year. It's going to get plenty of use and a bit of track time too.

The first one I called Jenson, he was replaced by Fernando and this new one has been christened Carlos :)

    Congrats, absolutely lovely.

However I can’t for the life of me understand why you chose one of these over a F430, madness

Looks fantastic, a thing for bedroom posters. There is one thing on the back that lets it down but that’s just my opinion. Enjoy it!

    Cheers

Amazing looking piece of kit Sir, looks fantastic.

The colours you’ve gone for fit it like a glove. I’d have explored wheels in silver or titanium finish though. Black look very purposeful but I’m a sucker for good looking wheels in silver to finish a car off.

Thanks all for the kind words, much appreciated

cant claim credit for those I’m afraid. A You Tuner / Social media mate of mine took them and he takes great pics as I guess it’s part of his job !

Thankyou, never been into the factory but am really hoping to do so one day soon

    I know, madness right ? ;)

ha ! The wing, the diffuser or the plate ...... ?!!

No doubting some folk have had less than positive experiences. I think the key is to do your homework and make sure you keep in with a good dealer who knows what decent service looks like.

I agree to an extent on the wheel choices. I did look at another one with silver wheels with a brighter body colour - could still be tempted to change these one day
