So I did manage to get an M4 shift paddle (same paddle as used on loads of BMWs) to fit to my M5 and it works fine. Not especially elegant modifications are required and the paddle angle to your fingers is a little acute. So further investigations are required to refine the process but its likely to be way too much dicking around for most people. Anyway it looks OEM (and clicks the same unsurprisingly) and has no risk of poking you in the eye unlike some of the aftermarket options!
Looks fine mate and obviously OEM, unless you're a real geek like us - good effort! That said, from that photo, it doesn't look like you're gaining much at all. You know I'm pretty OEM, but the Paddleshifterz have made my driving a whole lot better and unless you stick your head through the wheel, your eyes are safe
The OEM are a pain if you like to use paddles daily and don't drive with your hands at a quarter past three.
I think they are aesthetically more pleasing than oem. Not a massive fan of the current aftermarket options...they are just too long for my taste.
Is there something other than auto? I tried them to make sure they worked. Once. I have to change gear in the Mini, I am not going to do it when I dont need to, surely
After 18 years of M3/4/5 cars with smg/dct/auto I just instinctively (subconsciously?) use the paddles. If I try to use auto it only lasts a minute or so before switching back to manual without thinking.
