I’m already having thoughts of selling my 1M for a lightly used Touring in a few years time when they’re cheaper.

It’s the perfect car for me. We have the M2 for small, nimble sportscar kicks, and the G81 M3 Touring will be the perfect family / GT car for road tripping with dogs, camping trips, golf, and with serious A/B road kicks along the way… I have so much want!

I would likely have bought one used instead of a new G21 M340i.

I love a fast BMW touring having built an E39 M5 wagon and an E46 M3 wagon for myself plus previously owned an E39 540i manual sport touring, a few E46 330i tourings so this is something that greatly appeals to me.

This is literally a "do everything" car that will make a good daily that I can load the kids in with their associated detritus, can do a dump or garden centre run in it or smash out some Nordscheife laps before filling it up with Germany's finest beer for the journey home!

I was close to pulling the trigger on a G21 Alpina B3 biturbo touring last year but had to put that on hold. I'm beginning to think this would be a better fit for me.

RE the sunroof not being a option, it would have been perfectly feasible for them to have done it as it is available for the G21 touring it is based on but I suspect, like the manual gearbox being such a poor seller on the F8x M3/4 meaning the didn't bother to type approve manual G8x M3/4 for the UK, the same lack of take up for a sunroof on the F8x M3/4 probably played a part in them not bothering to type approve a sunroof for the touring which is a shame.

No regrets cancelling my order, really liking the comfort of the x5. More likely to move to a X5m than this.
Also no carbon roof or pan roof, not great.

So glad to see a new M3 touring but at that money I can't help thinking a 340i touring offers a lot more value. Especially a used one. Obviously an M car has a bespoke chassis and other parts but the experience of the engine and gearbox won't be a million miles off surely ?

It’s not about value, an M has never been about value. I ran an E90 335i with JB4 30-60 in 2 seconds but it wasn’t an M. It would kill V8 M3 on a straight but it wasn’t an M.

Three things concern me -

1. The price
2. No pan roof option
3. The new idrive screen

Need to see it in the flesh, but at £83,470 before options, likely little or no discount and a 5 - 6% APR with a modest GFV, it will be double the cost of my current M340i and double the monthlies too. Will take some epic man maths to wash that one through.

Do like the look of the front and rear arches though

This is my neighbours car which has swung my perception. It’s lowered slightly and has spacers fitted, but the presence is immense. Black on orange / tan leather. It’s one seriously menacing beast.

I never took to the F80 but the G80 (G81) is really talking to me.

I’m just imagining a touring version of my neighbours - sat perfectly, spaced wheels… One very badass touring

Agreed on this. I’ve dumped the S4 Avant and gone for a 2 year old X3M. Partly because I would love an M3 touring but it’s just going to cost too much and the Audi bored me! Pan roof in the X3M is fantastic plus you get the same engine as the new M3 as well.

3 years time maybe get a touring.
