    Hi All,

    I need some advise!

My airbag light has come on the car recently, I then went to my local BMW specialist who has advised me that the airbag control unit (MRS) needs changing as there were many faults when plugged in. I have been quoted £400+ just for a new unit from various places.

    - My question is can my current unit be fixed?
    - Or if I do get a second hand unit, can this be coded to my car? I have also been advised that using a second hand unit is not the best solution to this problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    recall

    Hi

dont know if this affects you but BMW have issued a recall on air bags on the drivers side and passenger side air bags on some E46's. Maybe worth giving them a call to see if yours comes under this. May or may not be causing your issue.

have you had a look on eeee-bay?

Alright mate, you are right I did have a recall about 2 years ago and had the work done. I did ask the bmw specialist if this work had to do anything with the fault and it wouldn’t have.

id hazard a guess your airbag control unit is logging many faults due to every time you start the car with the airbag light on it logs a fault. so highly unlikely airbag contol module is goosed.

do you have the codes, first thing need to run em and post back here. im gonna throw a wildcard up and say your steering wheel slip rings had it, ive helped a few here with airbag lights and its always been the slip ring thats either worn out or the cables in it have come loose.

run codes, then post back, if it says drivers ignition slip rings goosed

if it is the airbag module i found a company who fixed them and recoded them to your car for about 150-200 quid id have to google it again though

Cheers for the info. I will try and acquire the fault codes.
