Cannot believe there is only one mention for The Sopranos. It’s widely regarded as the best TV series ever - and I agree completely.

Just finished re-watching again (Watched it at the time, week-by-week on TV, then on DVD, now on demand in HD), and I’m sad it’s over again.

Whats so good about it, is it’s not some Uber-cool, fashionable depiction of the mob, it’s about the real people and their lives, their wife’s, girlfriends, children, family etc who just happen to be part of the mob. Some have big houses but their lives are pretty normal by day - taking out the trash, going to parents meetings, rowing with the family over menial sh1t, but by night the guys are shagging strippers, bumping off people, collecting money, plotting moves. It’s often a dark comedy, genuinely hilarious in parts, deadly serious and dark in others. The balance is spot on.

Tony, the main man of the family is an old school guy in a modern world, he rules with a firm hand, ruthless when required, but is also in therapy for depression and anxiety. The insight into his mind behind the closed (and confidential) doors of his shrinks office are a very clever insight into his personality and reasons for the way he is. It’s genius. You shouldn’t like the guy (he’s a murdering mob boss!) but you can’t help but love him.

Many of his crew and other characters are iconic, some if the best ever penned and acted on screen.

Honestly, it’s one if those ‘must watch’ shows that everyone has to see one day, it makes Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Westworld seem like filler in comparison. Get involved!

The handmaids tale on amazon prime. Well written quality show. 3 seasons, which is nice.

It’s one of them, “wtf is going on” type of beginnings and slowly things are revealed, with flash backs.

I do need to go back and visit sopranos again. It’s been too long since I watched that, but that’s how I like it, so I can forget everything and watch it like it’s fresh again.

I’ve just bought The Pacific (HBO Band of Brothers sequel)- so well made (I love all things WW2!)

I thought I watched it way back in 2010 when it was released but I’ve either forgotten it all or for some reason never watched it!?

Superb - looking forward to the 3rd one they make in 2022

You’re in for a real treat when you revisit it. I had forgot some of the storylines, but most of all, I’d forgotten how utterly brilliant it is.

I love sci-fi. Heard this was/is a head f*ćk though, and not necessarily in a good way.

Can you elaborate on it a bit more to give me a taste?

    Where to begin.

It’s a very complex, nuanced and deeply layered show. It’s a show that you need to really watch, it has a large cast and juggles a lot of different storylines. You can’t just put it on in the background, it requires your attention. It’s an incredibly rewarding watch though.

I had it on my to-do list for a while, I eventually started watching it after stumbling across an article that stated that The Expanse was the greatest sci-fi show of all time. I binged all 4 seasons over the first lockdown, season 5 starts in a few weeks (December).

The Rotten Tomatoes scores tell the story, season 1 was rated at 77%.. a solid start.
Season 2 is rated at 95%, the show really ramped up here.
Both season 3 & 4 are rated at 100%, absolutely incredible seasons. Says it all.

If you like sci-if, I don’t see how you couldn’t like this show.

Yes, The Expanse really is this good.

The Shield remains the greatest TV show ever made however ;)

    The Queens Gambit.

Netflix mini series - one off (7 episodes).

What a find! Great little series which had us hooked from the first episode. About an orphaned girl in 50’s America, who becomes a chess prodigy after watching the janitor at her orphanage play it. She shakes-up the usually make-dominate game, and sets her sights high. Very stylishly shot and the characters are great. Well worth a try. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it
