    Probably a stupid question but when people talk about kickdown do they mean the gear change when the gas is pressed slightly causing the gear to change or only when it’s floored causing it to drop several gears?

    Kick down auto= foot to the floor drops the gear to the most appropriate

    Kick down manual = flick and Hold the down shift paddle and foot to the floor (same result as above)

    Fuk me Col really!..... Kickdown in manual mode on a dry road is one of the best features of the DCT/car.

    I’ve never actually found the need or the situation where I’ve thought yeah let’s do that.
    I always just give a quick double downshift using the paddle, and then floor it. In my head it seems too abusive the other way, even though the car won’t do anything that it doesn’t think is right.

    I’ve never tried it either! Always progressive.
    And then I seem to lose traction.

    Now with all I read and as I have bm3 I’m reluctant too!

    Use the auto kickdown everyday at some point. Obviously depending on weather etc. It's very addictive. Hardly ever touch the paddles though, which seems the complete opposite to some of the replies above..

    Manual kick-down is superb. If you haven’t tried it you’ve missed out. Its not damaging to the car. It’s no different from dropping from 6th to 3rd in a traditional stick box (you wouldn’t go 6th, 5th, 4th 3rd would you?! :D) Colin you will get addicted to doing it in the CS with all that mid range.

    Auto kick down and auto in general is for vaginas tho. :p

    well I wouldn’t go from 6th to 3rd under full throttle either.

    It is a feature for people unable to look ahead from what I can work out? Whilst you are doing your kickdown the guy who is capable of reading road conditions is already up the road as he was in the right gear already, and he is less likely to break traction or spin the crank hub at the same time ;)

    WTF are you on about :roflmao: That’s utter nonsense. It’s just a mechanism for dropping down the gears quickly ffs. Do you understand how a DCT box works?
