    hi all

my 03 m3 is at 59k so will be due for inspection 2 soon. i have been getting quotes from few dealers but not only is it too expensive, i am not sure if they know what they are talking about.. so i am looking for a reputable indy around the Bromley area where the car is stored. any recommendations and rough estimation of what the inspectio 2 will cost me including valve clearance adjustments etc?

sorry if this has been asked million times but i just want to make sure my car is in safe hands!!

I had an inspection 2 with aircon regas and compression test including valve clearances for £677 fro TWG in Camberley which i thought was fair

ETA motorsport in West kingsdown are doing mine tomorrow along with new rear dampers. Not sure on pricing though. Matt and Geoff know the e46 m3 inside out, I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

i guess this is the nearest indy to take, can you let us know how much it cost you once its done.

also anotehr question is that i have only out 3k miles on the spark plugs etc so not sure if those need replacing again? can i exclude them or they have to do go through every single item on the checklist to call it Inspection 2?

ETA Motorsport and Scott's Performance / Biddenden Motor Works are both reputable.

ETA - Highly recommended. Problem for me is getting there and back as no courtesy car and no useful public transport. Also opening hours didn't fit with my work hours so dropping off/collecting car means booking a day off work for me.

Biddenden Motor Works in Dartford - Highly recommended, they have been a bit cheaper than ETA for me.

just called ETA and they must be very busy (which is a good sign i guess)

i am booked in for inspection 2 for the 31st August but will be dropping the car off 30th as engine has to be stone cold for the valve clearance adjustment.

cost is 650 inc VAT + the cost of shims which are gbp 2.50+each so i guess this isnt too bad?

also its only 20 minute drive there

Thanks Joe - sounds like they know their stuff from the reviews and would be quite a bit more convenient than getting back from Brands on public transport...

If you're willing to travel further afield, you can't go past Darragh Doyle at Everything M3s. He is based in Banbury, but I make the 2 hour trip there from London, even for minor service items. The express train from Banbury is about an hour back into Marylebone.

From my perspective, the differentiating factor for Darragh is attention to detail, given his background in motorsport.

If you're not willing to travel, then ETA will be fine.

Do a fuel filter whilst your there aswell

    Oil + filter
    Microfilter
    Air filter
    Fuel filter
    Spark plugs
    Vanos filter
    Gearbox oil
    Diff oil
    Brake fluid
    Coolant change
    Valve shims

If the coils are original id change those seeing as they are coming out anyway and the breather unit on the rocker cover

Looking to get a few other bits sorted at the same time so fuel filter is a good shout. Any other recommendations for places to look at from East London?

Genuine question, is there actually any point getting an inspection 2 anymore considering the age of these cars?. Most enthusiasts keep on top of maintenance and servicing anyway don't they?.

100% worth it, the service schedule states it’s only due every 4th service anyway. It should be done more often than this IMO.
