Had these on my last car. I think they were made by grafxwerks or something like the in the states,

I actually had two pairs, monochrome and colour but would consider any options if there are any out there.

    Hi adamantium,

Grafxwerks stopped making these many years ago and I think some years after that, they went out of business.

I've wanted illuminated sill strips for quite some time and did look into manufacturing OEM level quality ones via some of my specialist manufacturers. As of right now, there's only one place I know of making high quality illuminated sill strips and the usual choice is aluminium ones with laser cut logo's and the illumination underneath. I believe he can do Resin domed versions - which is like the OEM ones. They're done to order, and thus, there's no one set price I believe as you can choose the level of customisation and I don't thin he has a website thus only on face ache.

I need to get my custom Resin Domed ones done, so will get you his details if you like ?

    Cheers, Dennis!

Have been hunting down a set of these for ages…. I missed out and should have ordered from these guys when I had the chance

If there is someone that can make a set and we can try and get a group buy going

Quality have to be oem and it might be an idea that we can supply the genuine items from bmw and they can modify accordingly

Either way I’m down if u guys sort something out

    Hi all,

I'll soon be speaking to my contact and I'll ask about the potential for a group buy. For now, I'd suggest there won't be any discounts as each order is treated as custom, but if there is a chance for a discount, consider it a bonus ! Another aspect is that they'll need to be imported from Europe, so will be subject to the full array of Shipping/Import Duty/VAT/Customs Clearance charges.

KeFF0r - An enthusiast I'm good friends with had the Grafxwerk sill strips in his E39 M5, and he had some issues with quality and eventually had them send another item/pair to resolve. Back then, they were pretty much the only choice out there for a great quality product, even if not quite 'OEM' levels of quality. That's when I did some research into making them at OEM level quality via the specialists I partner with to manufacture my own products. As I was also developing my own product and focusing on that, the sill strips project slowed and due to one potentially great UK specialist messing me around for about a year, I put it much further back on my list. In the meantime, I've since been in touch with another enthusiast who can make these and crucially, at OEM levels of quality. So there's not a need to send him some OEM sill strips, the 'blueprint' as it were is already in existence.

If you guys can give me a little time, I'll get in touch, put forward the idea of a group buy etc and see what he says. At that point, I'll put a post up for interest/deposit or full payment/details/pricing range (depending on customisations chosen)

    Cheers, Dennis!

I was thinking more on the lines that if we can get a bunch of people that are interested it will make the commission more viable and cost effective for us and the manufacture

if you can get a prototype so we can see that would be good

    keep us posted

    Hi all,

Apologies it's taken some time for me to look into this - absolutely stupidly busy nowadays since a business strategy change in the family business!

I've made initial enquiries and the feedback is that group buys can be done, however the discounts will be marginal. The reason is that buying smaller amounts of materials as a single man specialist and the current massive rises in the cost of raw materials as well as availability means margins are much smaller. For the M3 owners here, then the current price level for illuminated sill inserts is 380 Euros inc delivery to the UK from Belgium. I'm fairly sure that price will be subject to VAT, Import duty and Customs Clearance charges. Assuming 5% import charges, I'd say the landed cost would be around £420/425 or so.

Please take a look at his Insta page - https://www.instagram.com/oemcustomz/

Quality is high and in the case of badges, they'll outlast OEM items by far ! All custom options can be done (within reason) I'll be placing my order for my Hartge sill strips in the next few days !

So far, I've not found another high quality manufacturer who will do custom work to customer requirements and at a good price level. Given the uncertainty in raw material pricing globally, the price may well increase sooner rather than later.

KeFF0r - As per my earlier response, the 'M3' design has been 'developed' already so no need for a prototype in the way you may be thinking. From that 'design' options become available with or without the lines either side of the M3 logo, different colour stripes in the M symbol, different backlight colours etc.

    Cheers, Dennis!

    Hi Adamantium,

Colour is customisable to what you'd want, the lighting 'technology' I don't know 100%, I've not asked him, however I believe it's a thin light up sheet and voltage I'm pretty sure (98%) is 12V. If it isn't, there may be a power pack to connect inline of the power supply (again, I've not asked as it's not so much of an area to be concerned over!)

    Cheers, Dennis!

Ok, let me know when anything more happens. I’m ready to go and will go for the exact same design as I had last time from the picture above if they can do it.

Have now spoken via whatsapp with the guy (john) who was very helpful and communicate.

I have also ordered a set.

The be clear, the style above in my picture at the top is encased in silicone with a rubbery finish. He cannot make those illuminated, but he does make Stainless steel versions which can be raw or black powder coated with any finish you like. Illumination is 12v LED and colour combinations are no problem. (my previous ones above were 400V electro luminescent (not so keen on that).

Overall the quality of these looks much better, and I am happier to go with these in a stainless finish.

The style I'm going for is exactly as above. He already does them for the M5, but obviously these would be for the M3. He supplies the metal insert which requires a donor BMW door sill for these to stick into.

Power comes from the footwell lighting. These are dimmable too, so if you connect to a 12vV dimmable source, they will dim, likewise if you connect to an interior lighting delay dimmer, they will auto dim with the rest of the lights, all depends on how you install them.

pretty close to the original look:
