I love the e46 m3 convertible when the sun is out, I occasionally drIve the e36 m3 and have a 1 series as a work Horse.

But something is missing from these cars - pops, bangs, crackles

The amg a45 seems like good choice and sounds amazing

Does any one have an a45 and is it as a daily ?

Other alternatives are m2 or rs3

RS3 or 500 abarth if you must have tacky pops and bangs, if not get an M2 lovely looking car.

I have an a45 as my daily and an e46 m3 vert as a toy so same as you are thinking.

The a45 has been mapped by dms so is very quick. As a family car it's great and easy to live and is genuinely good on fuel I tend to get around 28 around town 40 on a motorway run. When you want to drive like a loon hit sport and not much can keep up with it and you gets lots of pops and bangs etc. I am a child too and love the noises and the jackal and hide personality of the car in the different drive modes.

Down sides are it eats tyres and it’s a little clinical tbh but it’s a great all rounder

Exactly what i wanted to hear, :)

Is it worth getting one with all the optional extras as most of them don’t have auto parking reverse cam etc

Mine has auto parking and tbh don’t use it. Camera , pan roof and heated seats would be my choices with the optional 19s. Any thing else would be nice to haves.

Face lift if then one to go for if you can stretch to it. Mines a pre facelift and nothing wrong with them still a great car but the face lift looks a little better and has more tech as standard. Tend to command 5k premium over facelift though.
I got 2 yeas used warranty from MB which is worth having and the MB dealer network is much better in every way to bmw imo who I found useless and rude ! Just my experience though of bmw Hull

once upon a time , not long ago, (I just contradicted myself there) I somehow ended up buying a 2017 gla 45 (note , slightly raised ride height, bigger car, touch slower than an A45. oh and has more rear blind spots). it was the same length as an e46 m3, so not hugely difficult to park. had my first child on the way and it was the safest car on euro ncap at the time (other than some alfa ) so was an easy sell and my man maths worked it out to be a bargain ...ahem.

but I tell you what, that thing was an entertainer for sure. unlike the A45, which is way too composed and a tiny bit sterile , the gla gradually leans a bit into corners so you always know when it is going to lose grip. And you feel the speed in it. and you can literally do safari rally roads if you can risk your rims getting damaged and your paintwork getting chipped ... it was a magnificent car. the options I had were leather performance seats , parking thingy ( i used it at least 100 times to parallel park ) reversing camera , premium pack (sunroof and HK system with sub). I would have got the driver assist package too for cruising on the motorway. The only other downside of this vehicle was it was a bit wide , so hitting b roads was never as easy as it is in an e46 due to its width.

I would get an A45 with adaptive dampers if you're worried about ride comfort. the gla is more comfortable than the a...

so if you want a more unhinged A45, the gla is a good option (at the right price ofcourse). any pre 2016 car will have a lazy transmission but I'm not sure if software or mapping can take care of that ..

if you ever drove an evo or Subaru sti, the gla is that sort of rslly car but far more premium and refined and with no real turbo lag in sport plus mode. it was just an unexpectedly brilliant car. Full of pops and bangs and a very slightly different exhaust tune to the A45.

but in winter the oil and transmission temperature would take an age to warm up.
( pops and crackles all day long too...)

    New A45 just launched

Looks very tasty with S model having 420bhp and rear biased drift mode.

Lots of previous hen cars about of which FL is the best choice and so values may drop a little as new one comes on stream.

True but new one will be silly silly money for a few years yet !

Well specd face lift would be my choice if budget allows still looking at 30k + from mb.

But don’t ignore a pre face lift with a remap it’s just as quick

I test drove a new A45 AMG recently and was rather disappointed - felt sluggish.

Love the sound on the a45. Out of all these soo called hot hatches it has to be between the a45 and rs3.
