    Good Afternoon,

New to the forum - hello...

Looking to buy an M4 CP Cab imminently - however struggling to find the right car with the right options for my budget. I have a couple deals on the table, however each car is missing something!

A main dealer has a car advertised at the moment which ticks all of my boxes (including price with a bit more negotiation), apart from the HUD and Air Collar.

HUD - I have this on the X5 and whilst its OK, I could live without it. Does the extra M styling of the M4's HUD make this a "must have"? One of my thoughts is that I wear sunglasses when driving for a large part of the year and with these the HUD is not visible anyway?

Air Collar - On a recent test drive (in the cold, wearing a jumper) I didn't even notice it was on? From your experience is the Air Collar worthwhile, does it make a notable difference?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Can't help as regards the air collar, but as for HUD, I wouldn't be without it now. It would rule the car out for me if it wasn't fitted.
Normal sunglasses aren't an issue with HUD. I had a problem with polarized lenses, but just changed to 'normal' sunglasses for driving, can see the HUD no problem now.
And if you're actually buying, as opposed to PCP, it will affect resale.

If you're not bothered about HUD you should be able to use as leverage to negotiate a decent deal as most consider it a must have. Downside of course is that it will work against you when you decide to sell

The problem is that the rest of the car is good. It's an individual colour and has individual interior with the full leather package. If it didn't have this, then the car probably wouldn't even be on my hit list.

I agree that not having HUD could affect resale, however I think the full leather and other spec would probably fill this hole...

Its just whether the HUD and Air Collar are worth sacrificing for the exact interior spec I am after....

Still interested to hear opinions on the Air Collar - thanks.

It seems like you’ve answered your own questions. You can do without either

I have my own opinion, yes. But its based on a 10min test drive... not long term ownership - hence asking here.

Understand but there are enough cars out there for you to take your time till you find the exact spec you want. You may be more limited with the convertible. M3 GFY will be along soon to give his thoughts as a long term owner.

You'd think so, but my criteria is fairly stringent as I am looking to buy outright. After a couple months of watching the market its fairly clear I will have to compromise somewhere (unless I increase the budget) - I am just trying to establish whether I compromise "Toys" or more integral spec like the interior finish.

    Thanks for your input.

Although not directly connected, well, maybe, my wife's 2 convertible doesn't have the air collar. But she does have the wind deflector (which anyone can buy) which you can also get for the 4 vert.
To be honest, with that in place (no rear passengers) you wouldn't need the air collar... It eliminates (fully) any buffeting at all, even at motorway speed. Just turn the heater up.

I had a 420d on loan and thought the air-scarf was shyte - it's not even heated so until the car is warmed up, you get cold-neck-ache.

    Heated steering wheel however, awesome!

Ok, so I am coming to the conclusion I can scrap the Air Collar if necessary... its just the HUD.

I think I am going to sit tight for now...
