Hello all, just wanted to write a little something up as I've been searching the forum for particular answers to some Q's about my 2011 M3 DCT.
Only had the car for 5 days after selling my 997.1 Turbo and I already love it!
Easy to drive, sounds great and has everything I wanted.
The car is Silverstone Blue, 43K, FSH, 353 wheels and seem mint.

    BUT a Few things though:
    * As its a DCT it can be a tad jerky on pull away if you don't accelerate in a positive way.
    * When in M mode S5 in first gear, the car can feel as if its bunny hopping if feather in loud pedal but its simply because the accelerator it so sensitive.
    * When selecting N, R or D there is a small clonk from under the console.
    * Pulling away in D can jerk from time to time, isn't a sooth as id thought it would be.
    * When pulling away the car makes a very slight clonk.

Any feedback on the above comments would be great and IF they are normal or not??

The car is booked into Lee Shannon in a few weeks for a once over, to check it all.

    Thanks

    Nice upgrade from the porker!
Most of the DCT queries you have seem to be par for the course with this gearbox. The bunny hopping can be due to low octane/poor quality fuel my car seems to behave best on shell v power used to bunny hop a bit when I used Tesco momentum (both 99ron fuels)
If I'm at a standstill and drop the car into neutral and then back into gear I can also hear a small "mechanical" noise as it engages gear. I quite like it actually but again a normal characteristic.
Obviously if your clonks etc are excessively loud get the car checked out.
Also consider the gts software upgrade for the DCT. It's a great upgrade

I'd like to just add that you could also consider checking what version of software you're running on your Ecu as well as the DCT.

I had my software updated @ bmw and it felt a lot smoother!

Every thing you have asked about is the pretty much the norm,

As for the hopping you could change the throttle setting in your M mode if its in the most aggressive setting it can start to bunny hop when pulling away quickly in 1st/2nd gear and that starts your foot bouncing on the throttle pedal which makes it even worse,

It works much better when your driving with a bit of pace as does the whole gearbox for that matter,

    Thank you guys! Much appreciated.
I will change the M setting and go from there, it makes sense that it’s actualy my foot bouncing on and off the accelerator slightly.
As for software version, how do I Go about Doig that?
    Cheers

+1 - Alpina is the forum name of this gentleman, please send him a PM.

Very helpful but based in Essex, not sure if that's too far for you! But I would defo recommend it plus he can do your GTS DCT too!

    Thanks

Now that my friend is q for someone who actually has it lol, I want it in due course.

    From what I have read:

    1. Smoother transition of gears
    2. Hardly any delay when going from D to R or N to R
    3. Better performance between shifts

It generally quickens every thing up a notch, Reverse to forward gears shift time is quicker as well and it also deletes the stop start as well (if your car has stop start that is) seems to make gearbox smother and also very fast in the quickest modes

I had enough of it mate, had a few issues that cost me a lot of money. So decided to cut my losses and sell to a trader. Pretty much sold it for what I paid for it 15 months ago.
Always wanted an e92 so got one.

    Have the actuators been changed?

When I had my M3 the symptoms you've described when taking up the drive were similar to what I was experiencing. Once the actuators were changed by Jason at rebuild.org the car felt a hell of a lot smoother and take up felt quicker too, even when cold! Hope this isn't an early indicator for you!!!

The clunking noise when engaging gear when stationary I think is always there as I'm sure its a feature of the DCT gearbox. That noise is most noticeable when going from forward to reverse gear or vice-versa.

Anyway get the upgrade done first. I think the last DCT upgrade was in 2015 but no doubt Alpina 527 will be able to sort you out.

If you spend a lot of time in rush hour traffic, it might be an idea to utilise 1 or 2 on the M settings as they are much less aggressive than 5.

    Anyway, good luck with it.

Might be cheaper to get Paul the Welder (check him on FB) to do a primary decat (car still passes MOT but you need a map or error coded out) and a back box exhaust mod.

I just had 'two pipes' mod done and blimey does it make the car sound good! It's exhilarating at any speed! Much cheaper than M. Box but then that is another kettle of fish
