Hi folks, I’m looking to get my headlights tinted, nothing too dark but the chrome annoys me. I done my fogs and got on okay but not sure I want to tackle my headlights. Just looking to see if there’s a company localish to me or someone who would do it as a cash job. I’m in Suffolk and happy to travel. Cheers
Can you not open them up and spray the chrome stuff matt black? I assume tinting would make them quite dull?
That’s what I would prefer to do and I know folk do it. I’m just not sure how it would come out, will have a think. ********* done it to his M4 headlights but I can’t find his thread. Cheers
I think I tried to contact them about wrapping my window trim on my RS4 and they ****ed about. I’ll have a look though. Cheers
They’re always pretty busy so I would put it down to that if I had to guess. I would recommend them as they did some bits for me on my RR a few years ago and they were great. Really nice people as well..... if not FLS in lowestoft have good reports but I’ve never used them. They have PPFd Lambos and ferraris so no reason to doubt them tho.....
I put light smoke lamin-x on my lights a while back, like 6-7yrs. It's only now that they could do with slight attention - its lasted well. Took the headlights out and applied with a hair-dryer. TBF I thought it would look gash as a DIY job and just took a chance as I couldn't find anyone local, actually removing the headlamp was more of a pain in the arse than the job itself.
I watched a video on fitting it and done it dry on my fog lights and turned out well. I just wasn’t sure about it on my headlights because of their shape. What was the light like after you fitted it? Was it noticeably lower light or not really? Cheers
I'd say I could notice it slightly, but not that I needed to use high-beam or anything. It's been through every MOT since.
I used lamin-x on my fogs and they turned out well. It would just be a light tint, I might give it a go and see how I get on. You reckon it would be easier with the headlights off? Cheers
100% It's very forgiving stuff, but you need to be able to pull the film all directions to get rid of the bubbles. I think it would be a ball ache trying to do it whilst the lamp was still on the motor... but not impossible.
Just my opinion, but I think headlight tinting is the dumbest thing to do on a car this side of budget tyres. Why would you deliberately make the performance of your headlights worse by adding a tint? Because it looks cool? It’s your car, but I personally think it’s stupid, and doesn’t even look that good.
I’m in Essex and can do them for you, 3 shades of tint, usually the lightest for the fronts, have them on my Range Rover and look great and haven’t noticeably lost any light. Did my F80 as well with the same results.
What a comment hahaha. Made my morning. This is the digital equivalent of walking up to someone in the pasta isle in Tesco, and saying, "why you deliberately add pesto sauce to penne pasta?, Personally I think its stupid, and doesn't even taste that good!" amazing
Don't forget to fit some under car LEDs, they make up for any reduced lighting coming from the headlights.
I used the lightest shade of Lamin-X on my old E92 LCI and the light output was decreased very noticeably, I wouldn't do it again except on a show car. The claimed tint level was about 6% (IIRC) but the light output reduction was more like 30% IMO. https://www.instagram.com/p/BJ8ojfZAj3m/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/BInuMgAg16W/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/BSzBSB2FbNX/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link You're much better off having the lights opened up and modified correctly. The highest rated place for this work (IMHO) is KYCS in Birmingham who take pride in the quality of their workmanship. I'll be having my lights done by them at some point.
