I've a couple of jobs need doing and am based in Holywood. Although there's a few specialists in N.I., they seem to be mainly Northwards and Westwards (Tullymore Road Motors, Dungorkin Auto Centre) without much in the Belfast / East of the province direction that I know of.

I really want to get a couple of small jobs done - wheel alignment, I've already tried Hursts and they claim the bolts are frozen (although from memory, they've told me this on EVERY car I've owned so I take that with a pinch of salt), went to Street Racer in Bangor last night and was put off somewhat when the guy didn't even seem to know that camber was adjustable on these things... :D I've used Wells Tyres in Bangor before with mixed results - they can be really good, but I've also had steering wheels pointing a good 10 degrees off as well and they aren't the cheapest (I don't mind paying if the job is done right first time). So any idea who can set them up reliably?

I also would like somebody to do the valve clearances as I doubt they've been touched in a long time. I know they're meant to be part of Inspection 2, but I also know lots of places skip doing it.

    Has anyone got any recommendations?

If it's on standard shocks your camber adjustment is very limited. There is a man that's supposed to be the best in kerrs tyres in Antrim, he's a rally driver iirc his name is Neil. I got mine done there by 2 numbskulls as he wasn't there that day. I wasnt happy and this boy found out through a friend I wasn't happy with the job and he rang me up and told me to bring the car up and he would put it right free of charge, can't say fairer than that...

As far as independents go in belfast there is auto technic in Castlereagh road, however, I had a bad experience with them with regards to payment.... I hear good thinks about Brian grieves in dungorkin. Tbh it's a tiny country, I would rather travel a few extra miles and get it done right... Paul knows his stuff in tullymore but can be hard to get a hold of.

Yeah, it may be tiny, but it's not particularly well serviced for public transport where these guys are located. It's also not easy for me to take a day off to travel 70 miles, drop a car off, find some way of getting back from a rural location, then reverse the procedure 2-3 days later when the car's done. Hence looking for somebody relatively close by.

I don't mind for a big job, but for smaller things it seems a bit of overkill. Besides, my SMG will probably break down before I get there... :D

It was Dungorkin who last gave it an Inspection 2. I am going to give them a shout and see if they can tell me if the valve clearances were done, but I'm guessing as it was 6 months ago, and they seem a small place, they may not know/keep records.

Suspension is standard, so hopefully it will not need much/any correction, I read the eccentric bolts gave you +/-0.5 or thereabouts on the rear and the top mounts had some adjustability on the front? I guess I need to know where it is to know if it needs adjusted. My old e36 was well out on rear camber, but then it's bolts were frozen up too (said Hursts...).

There's a Kerr's branch in Belfast... and Newtownards as well, I'll look into that. Cheers! Letting some penetrating oil soak into the bolts for a few days before going anywhere else first :)

PM me on Auto technic if you don't want to spill the beans, as I had seen their site and was thinking they'd be a good place for the next service... maybe not?

Brother just used Momentum in Lisburn for servicing his GTr, spoke highly of them but were expensive enough. CK autocare at Craigantlet are decent, used them on a runaround 330ci I had and Craig was professional and easy to pay. Not sure who to take my M3 to, I'm in the Stormont area but from Derry so not so sure about the local car scene up here.

Shame CK share their name with a crowd in England so I can't google much up on them, but they are in the same place as Polished Alloys by the looks of it. Could be very handy if they were any good.

Just off the phone with Dungorkin, as they were the last people to service the car with previous owner. The guy remembers it well (seems the previous owner was a regular) and was very surprised it was sold. It's had a full inspection 2 including sub-frame and valve clearances were done. Also a throttle stepper was replaced as it was throwing a fault code. Aside from that, he says it's been a very well treated car. Nice to get independent confirmation :)

All I need is for them to move 60 miles closer... :D

Just looked 'em up.. Yep, I know that place and found the website http://www.scottsgaragedundonald.co.uk/ . Not seen many Ferrari's parked around it, but the website reassuringly has pictures of men checking dipsticks, so they must be good :)

Heh, nah, but seriously, I may give them a go next time I need some work done. Thanks!

Kerr's Tyres do indeed get a good rep for alignment.

However Jonny Armstrong of AI Autosport is based in Carrickfergus, he is worth a look.
