Nice cars but just tooo common for me
Well it’s a fast golf .......I personally don’t like the curb appeal of these but I get why youngsters buy them
I test drove one a few weeks ago, interior is quite nice, if I was still into traffic light GP it would probably leave my e90 behind.
Things I couldn't get past though is the "sound actor" sounded good, but it was fake engine noise and when moving, unless you see the 4 exhausts, I struggle to tell the difference between that and a bogo golf.
Very fast competent daily cars but surprisingly good when you push on in one, something has changed from the Golfs before it. It's effectively replaced my e92 m3, which i loved but it was getting on and the expensive road tax was starting to grate.I've got something more interesting for the weekends now instead.
Lovely cars for what they are and the market they fill
Can be tuned for not a lot of money in M3 terms and the engine can handle 400-500bhp easily apparently from what I’ve seen
Perfect all round car?- it’s up there isn’t it!?
They make a great used buy because the market was flooded on cheap lease deals. If you hunt down one with good spec they are just so much car for the money and it makes all the difference.
The R’s party trick is it just does everything with virtually no compromises and manages to strike a perfect balance between things that are usually left giving you one thing or another.
It looks special but also looks like nothing to most.
It is fast and fun but also comfortable and cheap to run.
they are safe and well built but cheap to buy.
I tried to buy one about 12 months ago and found the opposite no dealer would do a deal on any golf r as they where selling like crazy on pcp to young drivers so little old me wanting to buy cash and get a decent trade in and a decent cash deal they were not intrested. Especially well specd 3door dsg cars one vw main dealer even said we don't really want your cash we want to sell it on pcp as thats where we make our money and hook customers in for a duration lol
So i bought an a45 amg instead as it was just better value for a better car
I love em. Interesting to see what happens with the Mark 8.
Yup, 2 years+ in and mine is going to be hard to replace.
Its a daily car that is economical, fast and cheap to run.
They were the ingredients that mattered the most and VW managed to come up with the perfect recipe.
Great cars, but they arent a 10/10ths car or a real occasion to drive.
Fantastic daily though, unbeatable at the price point.
Probably......it would spank it
I've already got a perfect daily and so have many M3/M4 owners on here. Golf R is good car. Interior is nice and the drive is good. It is a bit tinny but a very competent motor.
The issue with a Golf R is the general demographic it attracts. This rules it out as an ownership proposition. Would rather an A45.
This I what my I got rid of mine after only six months. I was embarrassed getting out of it in the office car park. Just not the right image.
Does the A45 not attract the same people?? I think the Golf R is great but agree about lacking character, my 5dr R32 was a great all rounder but also had some character in that wonderful sounding V6. The power they can extract from 4 cylinder engines is mind boggling and very impressive but would be nice to have something ‘special’ too I think.
Not to mention all the scumbag thieves they attract
Good job M3's arent thief magnets too.
I think the Mk7 GTI is better looking, doesn’t have the same performance but prefer it myself.
My son jus bought a golf R as a daily, and i must admit i luv it.
Nor driven by any chavs, Dels or bruvs
