I moved from a house with a garage to this one with a double. If I move again it'll have a triple garage. I had half brick front garden and raised grass at the front and then dug it all out for gravel and parking for more cars. I like cars. I don't like gardening. I even had my lawn removed at the back and artificial lawn laid. I never have to cut it again. Heaven.
Ahh man that right there is my goal. Plot and then self build A couple of years ago me and Mrs drove up. Stayed in a cabin outside Sterling. Was genuinely blown away with the natural beauty.
I’m 10 mins from Stirling You don’t have to go far at all round here to stumble on some wonderful scenery!
If you're planning to sell, I wouldn't bother, just tidy up the existing area as frugally as possible Does the surrounding and comparable houses have a garage and what is the ceiling price for similar properties because you want to recoup the garage/garden costs by adding it on to your sale price I assume? Which can mean you might be trying to achieve a higher sale price than comparable houses in your street/area Garages definitely add value, If you're not in cars, its used as storage, a big plus for most people. If I were staying, double garage definitely. I have double garage envy. In those uncomfortable moments when somebody wants to show you around their new home or remodeling I'm more interested what they have done to garage. Workbench, shadow board, floor tiles???
Tbh I’d be tempted to compromise. A garage for me would be a must have. I like garden too though. So why not build a decent sized single garage & retain more garden? Careful siting of said garage means you can utilise one or more of the exterior walls in planning an outside living space...
A garden is pretty to look at but I'm honestly not going to spend much time in it nor am I going to maintain it properly. I also suck at growing veg although I like to daydream of living in a homestead. I would vote garage every time. At the moment, we have a double garage with small to medium sized gardens in a rented property. The garage is a joy and the garden just causes me anxiety when the work on it starts to build up.
