I know this topic may have been done several times, but who are people generally using for GAP insurance. I know the underwriter is the most important thing, but not always clear. Are the likes of ALA any good, they come out much cheaper than most, do they underwrite themselves? Have found different BMW dealers quote different prices, so obviously using different providers, any input would be much appreciated as need to sort out this week.

And also, is it best to get return to invoice or vehicle replacement GAP if buying a brand new car on PCP? Thanks

I’ve always used BMW and got them to match my cheapest comparable alternative. But as the daft finance bint hadn’t lined it up for collection day this time (a Friday and she asked if I’d mind waiting til Monday despite having a week’s notice to set it up!!!) I went with ALA.

I was unfortunate enough to have to use my GAP insurance. I was with ALA and they were excellent. Highly recommended.

Thing they are underwritten by UKI but they have authority up to 10k from what I could work out, anything after that it referred. Mine was referred and sorting very quickly with no hassle.

    I went with ALA, back in 2014 when I had a 335i.
Opted for back to invoice insurance, so in the event of total loss (nearly happened 8 weeks in ) I'd simply get back everything I paid for it.

Not sure if I could chose replacement vehicle insurance as 335i out of production, but dismissed that option as I was buying insurance product for 3 years so, in the long term, wouldn't want the same car again. ;)

Have the same product with BMW now, cos ALA wouldn't cover cars over 10 years old ; my M3 was nearly 12 when I got it.

I use ALA and I know someone who claimed with them due to driveway theft. Very quick to pay out, so highly recommended.

Thanks All for your input, need to buy today/tomorrow as I collect the car tomorrow afternoon. Just thinking about vehicle replacement, is this now going to apply seeing as F80 M3's are no longer going to be produced, so in the event I do need to claim (never I hope) am I right in thinking return to invoice will more than cover me seeing as car is brand new so invoice will always be higher than any priced F80.

I'm assuming vehicle replacement means it has to be the same car, i.e. it doesn't cover me in 3 years time lets say when the new M3 is out, because if that's the case which I doubt then I'm better off with a vehicle replacement cover.
