Clear it with the garage to make sure they're okay with that too.

They have to take the downpipes off to see if they are leaking into the exhaust housing. Mine looked okay externally but were pushing lots of oil into the downpipes. If i was you id take it elsewhere.

Master Technician means someone who's been there more than a week. They're all fecking retards in my experience.

What he really did was check for an oil patch where your car was parked.

The amount of times I've had to tell them what the problem is is rediculous. Alternatively, having to listen to some utter, utter, bollox reason why the problem isn't a problem.

Mine is consuming a litre every 2000/2500 miles or so - garage says there is oil misting but not that much leakage.

Do you think I should replace or wait till it gets worse?

Are those 2500 hard miles or just pootling to the shops? If it's hard miles I wouldn't worry about it.

Just spoke to a mechanic that was fitting my brakes last week and he said he did see blue smoke.

Seems like most of these Master Tech‘s haven’t got a clue. I’ve got a problem with my VRS daily and it’s turbo at the moment. On discussion with the MT I asked him to explain how a turbocharger works. He couldn’t. Tried to tell me that I’d damaged the exhaust side of the turbo by debris coming in the inlet side. “So it’s gone round the compressor, spinning at 150000rpm, without any damage, down the inlet manifold, past the inlet valves, managed to get through the combustion chamber, out the exhaust valves and into the turbo blades on the exhaust side where it eventually caused damage”? Yes was the reply! “Do you have a borescope” I asked? “A what” came the reply! Service Manager front and centre please!

New turbo been fitted this week for the a faulty actuator/wastegate not sealing properly. I think I mentioned it when I dropped the car off two weeks ago!

If you know your stuff, their shortcomings are quite funny if they weren’t so expensive!

Probably is more than average, but it's still within tolerance (tolerance is something like a litre every 800 miles for most cars IIRC)

    Yep

for an Audi anything less than 800 is considered excessive and they do an oil consumption test.

I hear that, but if a car goes from consuming barely anything to 1 litre every 700 miles with no change in driving behaviour then something is clearly wrong.

No and don’t say we told you they said it drives straight though. Anyways booked in now 10/12 with a courtesy car as I suspect it’s gonna be there for a while judging by the blue smoke I seen today after standing behind the car while getting someone to Rev it also u can smell the oil.

My oil consumption down to 300 mile a litre now. So called Bmw assist who’ve dropped my car at local dealer and supplied me with a hire car. Dealer calls me today tells me we can’t see anything again we can’t see blue smoke. They sent me a vid with car in idle. They want me to pay for a oil service which is mad because it’s had the 26k service about 2k miles ago, so that they can monitor the usage. Or pay for a further diagnosis. I’m waiting now for the service manager to call me.
