Just found these: https://store.activeautowerke.com/products/f87-bmw-m2-rear-exhaust-tips
Changing tips on the 1m exhaust is a bit annoying. Reason being is the way the tips connect is a push on type affair over the ‘real’ exhaust tips. The reason this creates a problem is because you end up seeing the ‘real’ exhaust tip inside the lager decorative tip the way the stock tips get around this is the rolled in lip hides the reality. I spent hours and ££ looking and finally had some custom made. Still didn’t look right. My advice would be live with them as hey are or get a full back box that includes sexy new tips. Probably not what you wanted to hear but hope it helps.
Edit unless you’re talking m2 in which case ignore all that lol.
Sorry yes, meant M2. The Tl, those tips do look cool. Can't work out whether to get metal or black though... What would you guys get? My car is LBB.
I have a feeling people were still getting issues with those bms tips pitting much like they did on the M135 etc.
I’m in a similar boat as you, still running the car in so yet to decide if stock is enough but for now I think it is. I keep looking at the MPE which is costly for a back box but I can’t help but like those carbon tips!
I’m sure the carbon tips can be made to fit the oem system so although a bit of a rip off I can see me going this route at the very least if I can resist the Akrapovic setup
Unlike all my previous cars, I think any less sound deadening than stock would be too loud for me in the M2, so I'm only going to do tips. I've decided to go for black chrome to match the stock diffuser. In the end I chose M3/4 CP tips which are 80mm black angled. Managed to get a new set from a BMW dealer for 153 GBP posted via ebay. Cheapest is usually 175 GBP so I'm happy with that. Will try to remember pics when fitted - I can't fit til next weekend probably.
PS I'm sure you can get just carbon tips to add on to the stock exhaust, though you might need to buy replicas. Not that anyone will ever be able to tell the difference.
Speak to Paul from PCW - he does the MPE replica tips. A friend of mine has just had them, look spot on.
Literally just spoke to Paul and yeah they look just like the MPE tips so I will be going for these as a minimum if I decide against the MPE setup which appears to be quite drony at motorway speeds. Paul’s exhaust mod may also be something I look at
Do they look like the carbon or titanium tips? I would like titanium but if I can’t source them I’ll probably get the oem black tips like I had on my M4.
Like the MPE but would rather spend half the money and get the Akrapovic sport cat and get the increase in sound as well as a small power bump.
You may as well spend half of that money and get PCW mod and his carbon tips. They look the same as the carbon MPE ones and the noise is 90% same as MPE.
Well worth it
They do indeed look oem:
The only thing that will possibly annoy me is you can see the bolt holding them on by the looks of it.
I’m sure they are quality but there are some dud replicas out there so I would watch who you order from
Problem is I don’t like/ want the Carbon tips, I’d want the titanium ones if I was going MPE route. That and no sound clips of the mod on an M2 don’t help. Akra downpipe should have some residual value too I’d have thought come trade in time and removal of any mods.
There is one or two M2 clips on his Facebook page
Didn’t think of checking fb, only YouTube
Not sure on the mod as both videos sound completely different to me. Still think I’ll go the sport cat route tbh. No rush though, going to try and get my running in service booked for next week.
I think there are various levels that he can increase the sound too. I’m not sure myself. Hoepfully hearing an MPE first hand at the weekend so I’ll know which way I’m going after that
Have Cyba 90mm black tips installed on mine.
That’s the ones I’m actually considering. How is the finish holding up? I also read that the exhaust need some adjustment to stop the tips hitting the bumper?
Finish is still good, not issues with fitment with oem exhaust. Sits evenly between the tips and top of the diffuser. Only issue was the 3 bolts on each tip starts to rust and I replaced with stainless steel ones.
