Right I'm appealing to any sparks on Cutters or anyone else with an opinion

I have just had a quote for the following work which has shocked me and I wanted further views in case it is just my view that's out of kilter

Electricity supplied from house to shed 40ft away, all domestic use nothing industrial/commercial
Cabling run along concrete plinths that fence panels sit on (so no digging) SWA cabling
    2 double plug sockets
    2 4ft strip lights

What would you suggest as an average price inc vat?

    Cheers all

Depending how it connects in ur house and if u need a fuse box upgrade and if using metal or plastic items and led or fluorescent lights it would probably be between 300-700

    Hi

Different electricians have different rates and may also not be in the same sort of 'ballpark'.

Go to some of the trades people comparison sites

    http://www.trustatrader.com/
    http://www.ratedpeople.com/

Put in details of the job, upload some pictures and get quotes in. You could look online to see how much the materials are and purchase them separately if you like. Get comparisons from as many people as you can.

    Cheers, Dennis!

    Run the armoured in yourself,
install lights and sockets present the lighting, and socket cable to where it needs to be.
    Save on labour
sparky just does connections probably about £120.00.

I'm currently building a house (self managing the project) and most trades are looking st £150-£200 per day. The work you require wouldn't even take a whole day but if it was me I would be expecting to pay £100, cable and plugs etc are all dirt cheap.

Do be aware that the work that you describe would be considered as notifiable under part P of the building regulations.
Your electrician would need to be registered with one of the domestic installer schemes and would apply for the part P notification for your job.

You would probably get a guy who would install the supply for you and not bother with either certification or part P notification.

Not many electricians would be keen to connect up an installation that has been installed by a householder as you just don't know what you are energising.

Electricians are not usually keen to secure cables to fences as they are not considered to be permanent structures. Sometimes though there is just no choice but if you are able offer to dig a trench for the electrician to lay his cable.

Pricing will vary by a wide margin depending upon whether you go to say an NICEIC enrolled contractor or an unregistered individual electrician.

    Good luck with your works.

If your not planning on moving don't worry about part p buy the armoured cable sockets clips etc and run the cable yourself
Don't you or a mate know any sparky that would just connect it for a bit of cash

The building trade at the moment is very affluent and most trades are very busy, therefore asking top dollar.

It is difficult to get ' small ' jobs done these days, inspite of adverts that say ' no job too small '

A tradesman will bump up his price so he doesnt get the job

    Good luck

The old saying goes "you get what you pay for", A time served, quality spark that can certify his jobs will charge well, because he will always have work, your local monkey that will do it for £100 [because sockets and cable are all dirt cheap ] are obviously going to be hit and miss.
A certified job, with a small consumer unit installed in the garage, would be around the £400-£450 mark, using quality kit.
I wouldn't touch an install that had been wired by the customer and just needed connecting up.
